It might be too late for bitcoin’s quantum migration, Project Eleven report argues

More than $3 trillion in digital assets could eventually become vulnerable to theft within the next four to seven years, according to a new report from Project Eleven.

Project Eleven focuses on post-quantum security and migration for digital assets and recently announced a collaboration with the Solana Foundation to prepare its network against the threat of quantum computing.

“The digital asset industry holds over $3 trillion in aggregate value, and virtually all of it is secured by the same class of cryptographic primitive: elliptic curve digital signatures,” which are vulnerable to quantum computing attacks, the report said.

But it is not only crypto that is at stake here. The report states that the same public-key cryptography security used by bitcoin, ether and stablecoins also underpins banking systems, cloud infrastructure, authentication networks and military communications.

At Consensus 2026 in Miami, Ripple SVP Jack McDonald delivered one of the clearest explanations yet of how $XRP and $RLUSD work together. His message was unmistakable: $RLUSD isn’t replacing $XRP, it relies on $XRP to function on the $XRP Ledger.

Explaining how $RLUSD functions on the $XRP Ledger, McDonald emphasized that $XRP remains essential to the network’s infrastructure. As the ledger’s native gas token, $XRP powers every $RLUSD transaction processed on XRPL behind the scenes.

While reinforcing $XRP’s central role in facilitating activity across the network, he said:

“Everything that we’re doing on the $XRP Ledger with $RLUSD requires us to use $XRP.”

McDonald described $XRP as the “grease in the wheel” powering $RLUSD activity on the $XRP Ledger, highlighting its critical role in enabling fast and efficient transaction flow across the network. His remarks push back against speculation that $RLUSD could diminish $XRP’s importance.

Instead, Ripple appears to be strengthening a dual-asset ecosystem where $RLUSD delivers price stability while $XRP continues to power liquidity, transaction fees, and core network functionality.

Moscow Exchange to launch futures contracts on SOL, XRP, TRXThe largest stock market in Russia, the Moscow Exchange, is going to launch futures contracts for more major cryptocurrencies in May.

The new products, based on recently announced indices for Solana ($SOL), Ripple’s $XRP and Tron ($TRX), will expand the platform’s crypto derivative offerings.

Well over 60,000 clients of the exchange have already traded such instruments since it entered the market last spring with the nod of the country’s central bank.

Moscow Exchange to add more crypto futures to the Russian market
The Moscow Exchange (MOEX) will start trading another three cryptocurrency futures this month. The derivatives will be based on new indices for some of the largest cryptocurrencies.

The contracts for Solana, Ripple’s $XRP, and Tron will be offered exclusively to qualified investors at this point, the stock market’s operator unveiled Friday.

They will have the tickers MOEXSOL, MOEXXRP, and MOEXTRX and will be made available on May 14. The futures will be based on indices published for the first time a day earlier.

The new instruments are settlement-based and do not involve the delivery of digital currency, the exchange also noted. Settlements will be made in Russian rubles.

The Solana index futures are quoted in dollars, corresponding to the index value, with a price increment and increment value of $0.01, the announcement further detailed.

The Ripple index futures are also quoted in U.S. currency. They will have a smaller price increment of $0.0001 but the step value will be again set at $0.01.

The Tron index futures are structured similarly, with a price increment of $0.0001 and cost per increment at $0.01, according to the press release, quoted by RBC Crypto and Bits.media.
