The current Bitcoin price chart shows BTC rallying from roughly the mid-$74,000s on Monday, Apr. 20, to a local high near $79,500 yesterday, then reversing by about $2,276 over roughly 17 hours.

As of press time, CryptoSlate's Bitcoin page shows BTC near $77,480, keeping the market back near the mid-$77,000s.

The cross-asset setup around the drop is interesting. The S&P 500 shows a pre-market and early-session gap lower on the SPY view, from roughly $710 toward $708.

WTI crude sits around $93.96, roughly the same level it showed when BTC hit $79,400. That combination points first to risk appetite and positioning.

CME $ADA futures went live on February 9, 2026 — starting the mandatory six-month regulated futures clock required before a spot ETF can be approved under the SEC’s new generic listing standards framework.

The clock is ticking. The market, for the most part, is still asleep.

August 9, 2026 is the date $ADA becomes eligible for the streamlined ETF approval process.

If Grayscale or NYSE Arca activates its filing on that date, the SEC has a maximum 75-day review window — putting a final decision deadline at October 23, 2026.

Firms like Bitwise and Canary Capital are also pushing for Cardano ETFs, meaning late 2026 could see multiple $ADA ETF launches simultaneously.

Grayscale has already increased $ADA’s allocation inside its Smart Contract Fund — from 17.96% to 18.33% — while reducing Ethereum exposure.

The Leios Public Testnet is scheduled for June 2026, targeting over 1,000 transactions per second.

The Midnight Mainnet — Cardano’s privacy-focused sidechain for confidential smart contracts — is also set for Q2 2026. The development pipeline is real.

The institutional positioning is happening. The price just hasn’t followed — yet.

The six-month mark doesn’t trigger automatic approvals. It opens a window where exchanges can list spot $ADA trusts under generic standards without filing separate rule changes.

Ethereum Dominance in DeFi Falls to 54%, Is ETH Losing Control of Biggest Market?
Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has seen its dominance in the DeFi market fall to around 54%, down from 63.5% earlier this year, as competing blockchains continue capturing a larger share of the crypto ecosystem. 

Now the big question is Ethereum losing its grip on DeFi dominance? While ETH price has recovered to nearly $2,314.

Ethereum Dominance in DeFi Falls to 54%

According to DeFiLlama data, Ethereum’s share of total DeFi TVL dropped from 63.5% at the start of 2025 to roughly 54% this month, marking one of the network’s weakest dominance levels in years.

DeFiLlama currently values Ethereum’s total value locked at approximately $45.4 billion, far ahead of most competing blockchains.

However, other networks are rapidly absorbing market share by focusing on specialized use cases across the crypto ecosystem. Current DeFi TVL market share now stands at:

Solana: 6.66%

BNB: 6.60%

Bitcoin ecosystem: 6.35%

TRON: 6.17%

Base: 5.44%

Hyperliquid ecosystem: 1.81%

This shift suggests DeFi is evolving from a single Ethereum-centered ecosystem into a multi-chain market where each blockchain focuses on specific sectors like stablecoins, perpetual trading, Bitcoin collateral, or consumer applications.

Ethereum Whales Are Selling

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez also pointed to a major shift happening among Ethereum whales.

According to Martinez, wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 ETH have significantly reduced their holdings since October 2025.

This whale cohort previously accumulated aggressively during 2025, growing holdings from approximately 12.95 million ETH in April 2025 to 15.95 million ETH by October 2025

However, whale behavior later reversed sharply. Their combined holdings have now dropped to roughly 12.52 million ETH, representing a decline of approximately 21.5%.

Foundry controls nearly 30% of global pool hashrate, while AntPool controls about 17.7%, according to Hashrate Index data cited in recent reports. Their participation could help Stratum V2 move from technical work toward broader use.
