The US crypto industry could soon witness a major regulatory breakthrough as the CLARITY Act is officially scheduled for a Senate Banking Committee vote on May 14. The announcement has reignited optimism across the digital asset sector, with many industry leaders calling it one of the most important legislative developments for crypto in recent years.

The CLARITY Act was originally introduced in July 2025 with the goal of providing clearer rules for cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance, blockchain innovation, and stablecoins in the United States. However, the bill faced delays earlier this year after Coinbase withdrew support due to concerns surrounding DeFi regulations, restrictions on stablecoin yield products, and the lack of legal protections for open-source software developers.

Following the confirmation of the upcoming markup session, Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal reacted by saying, “It’s on like Donkey Kong,” while Coinbase Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad described the development as a “big step forward” for both innovation and consumer protection in the United States.

For years, crypto companies have argued that unclear regulations and aggressive enforcement policies under the previous SEC leadership pushed innovation and investment away from the US toward more crypto-friendly countries. Many industry participants believe the CLARITY Act could help reverse that trend by creating a more predictable legal framework for blockchain businesses and investors.

Pro-crypto Senator Cynthia Lummis also publicly backed the legislation and urged lawmakers to move the bill forward through the Banking Committee. According to industry insiders, the legislation will likely require bipartisan support and at least 60 votes in the Senate to eventually become law.

According to Token Terminal, Cardano has emerged as the second-largest Layer 1 blockchain by validator count. The milestone strengthens Cardano’s reputation as one of the most decentralized proof-of-stake networks in the crypto industry.

Bitcoin scam: ED arrests hacker Sriki, two others
Stepping up the investigation following recent raids, officials of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Saturday arrested prime accused in the Bitcoin scam case, Srikrishna alias Sriki, along with two others in Bengaluru.
The ED arrested Sriki, Robin Khandeval and Sunish Hegde in connection with the alleged cryptocurrency scam. The trio was produced before a special ED court, and taken into custody for 10 days for further interrogation.

The central agency has been probing the alleged Bitcoin scam for the past several years over accusations of illegal cryptocurrency transactions, hacking and financial irregularities.
As part of the ongoing investigation, ED officials had recently conducted searches at multiple locations linked to the accused and their associates.

The case had earlier sparked major political controversy in Karnataka, with allegations surrounding the handling of seized bitcoins and the possible involvement of influential persons.

On April 20, the agency carried out raids at 12 locations, including premises allegedly linked to Sriki, the sons of Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris,  Mohammed Haris Nalapad and Omar Farook Nalapad, and Mohammed Hakeeb Khan, the grandson of former Union Minister K. Rehman Khan.

The case is related to a 2017 hacking incident involving national and international websites, in which bitcoins were allegedly stolen by Sriki and his associates. Mohammed Haris and Omar Farook are allegedly suspected to be beneficiaries of the proceeds of crime. Investigators believe that bitcoins hacked from a Dubai-based crypto exchange were routed to the Nalapads, with the ED tracking the digital trail.

The ED also raided the residence of Mohammed Hakeeb Khan. Officials alleged there were suspicious money transfers through his bank accounts, prompting the searches.

The Senate Banking Committee will meet on Thursday, May 14, to consider the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, putting the crypto market structure bill back on the calendar after a January postponement.

The notice follows months of talks over regulatory jurisdiction, consumer protections, developer protections and stablecoin rewards. CoinDesk reported last week that crypto firms had backed a stablecoin yield compromise meant to unlock the bill.

Cody Carbone, CEO of The Digital Chamber, said the notice marks “a major step” toward clarity for more than 70 million Americans who use cryptocurrencies..

Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger called the markup notice “an important step toward establishing clear rules for digital asset markets.”
