The SEC is expected to release an innovation exemption for tokenized stocks as soon as this week.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins and Commissioner Hester Peirce had already sketched the plan in February, describing a temporary, limited framework with volume caps, white-listed buyers and sellers, automated market makers, and temporary relief while the SEC develops longer-term rules.

Atkins confirmed in April that the agency was “on the cusp” of releasing a cabined framework for compliant on-chain trading of tokenized securities.

The U.S. SEC is putting the finishing touches on a framework that would allow digital, blockchain-based versions of publicly traded stocks to trade on crypto platforms.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is putting the finishing touches on a framework that would allow digital, blockchain-based versions of publicly traded stocks to trade on crypto platforms — a move that signals how far Washington has traveled in its relationship with an industry it once treated with suspicion.

According to a Bloomberg report published Monday, the SEC plans to release an “innovation exemption” for tokenized securities as early as next week. The proposal, under development by an agency now led by Chair Paul Atkins, would create a lighter regulatory pathway for platforms offering digital representations of equities without requiring full registration compliance. The SEC did not respond to requests for comment.

What makes the framework notable is what the tokens would and would not be. Under the reported structure, third parties could issue tokens that track the price of a public company’s shares without that company’s backing or consent. 

The tokens would trade around the clock on decentralized crypto platforms. They would not carry traditional shareholder rights: no votes at annual meetings, no dividend checks, no seat at the table when a company makes decisions that affect its shareholders.

Tokenized stocks settle faster, operate across borders without the friction of legacy infrastructure, and could open equity markets to investors who have historically been locked out by geography or cost. The vision is ambitious: proponents want to put the plumbing of the $126 trillion global equity market on blockchain rails.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency ever created and is still the most widely recognized digital coin available today. Its market capitalization sits around $1.33 trillion, far above runner-up Ethereum, which has a market value of roughly $233 billion.

At its core, Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency. That means it operates on a peer-to-peer network instead of being controlled by a government, bank, or other central authority. It lets you transfer value straight to another person without using a financial middleman.

Many investors are drawn to Bitcoin because they see it as a potential hedge against inflation or simply as a way to add another asset class to their portfolio. Over the past decade, its performance has been massive, often beating the returns of major stock market indices, which helps explain why it has captured so much attention.

However, like other cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is exposed to extreme volatility and can experience rapid price swings.

Since launching in 2009, Bitcoin’s journey has been anything but smooth. In the early days, software developer and early believer Laszlo Hanyecz famously spent 10,000 Bitcoins on a couple of pizzas; today, those coins would be worth more than $668 million.

Over roughly the last decade, Bitcoin’s price has soared by more than 15,000%. That upside has come with serious risk, as cryptocurrencies tend to be highly unpredictable. Bitcoin has experienced steep drops, at times losing tens of thousands of dollars in value within a few months, but it has also staged similarly dramatic rallies. In 2025, it ended the calendar year about 30% below the all-time high it hit in October of that same year.

BNB Smart Chain cuts throughput by 40% in post-quantum cryptography migration tests



BNB Smart Chain has successfully tested a migration to post-quantum cryptography across its transaction and consensus layers, replacing key elliptic-curve cryptographic systems with quantum-resistant alternatives standardized by NIST, according to a recent report.

The upgrade replaced ECDSA transaction signatures with ML-DSA-44, also known as Dilithium2, and substituted BLS12-381 consensus aggregation with pqSTARK proofs. The project did not include peer-to-peer handshake encryption or KZG commitment systems, which remain under consideration for future upgrades.

The work comes as blockchain developers prepare for the long-term possibility that quantum computers could eventually break widely used elliptic-curve cryptography through Shor’s algorithm. BSC said the migration effort was precautionary and not tied to any immediate security threat.

NIST formally standardized ML-DSA under FIPS 204 in August 2024, establishing the first production-ready post-quantum signature framework adopted in the report.

BSC selected ML-DSA-44 from among three standardized parameter sets, citing lower signature size and faster verification speed as the main reasons for the choice. The report said larger variants would create substantially more network overhead while offering limited practical benefit under current threat projections.

The migration sharply increased transaction data size. Signature payloads grew from 65 bytes to roughly 2,420 bytes, while public keys expanded from 64 bytes to 1,312 bytes. Under native transfer workloads of 2,000 transactions per second, block size increased from about 130 KB to approximately 2 MB.
