Arkham projects Bhutan will exhaust its reserves before the end of September if sales continue at the current pace.


Not everyone buys that timeline. Markus Levin, co-founder of XYO, said the projection assumes a steady rate of selling — but that is not how Bhutan has operated.

Sales started with 2,077 BTC worth $163 million in late 2024, followed by a $100 million tranche in September 2025, with quieter stretches in between.

Earlier this year, transfers picked up again. Reports indicate Bhutan moved over $120 million in Bitcoin during March alone, including a single transfer of 519.7 BTC valued at $36.75 million at the time. Coins are often routed through Singapore-based trading firm QCP Capital, according to reports.

Analysts say the pattern reflects a deliberate treasury approach. Lacie Zhang, a research analyst at Bitget Wallet, described the activity as an active sovereign strategy aimed at monetizing gains while keeping some long-term exposure.

Since the Bitcoin was mined at near-zero cost, every sale generates profit regardless of timing.

Crypto Ambitions Remain Intact
The sell-down has not slowed Bhutan’s broader push into digital assets. Gelephu Mindfulness City, a special administrative region in southern Bhutan, has been designated to hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB as strategic reserves.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck pledged up to 10,000 BTC — then worth around $1 billion — toward the city’s development in December 2025.

Renowned cryptocurrency strategist Arthur Hayes made striking statements about macroeconomic data and global liquidity flows during a live broadcast. Describing Bitcoin’s current state as a “newly emerging bull market,” Hayes claimed investors should be prepared for the $126,000 level.

At the heart of Hayes’s rise thesis are the credit creation processes of central banks and commercial banks. Hayes specifically noted that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) competition between the US and China requires a massive expenditure of capital (CapEx).

Hayes argued that “if Google or Chinese giants run out of cash for the AI race, banks will step in under ‘national security’ pressure from governments, and this abundance of liquidity will flow directly into assets with limited supply, such as Bitcoin.”

According to a recent press release, the new framework allows qualifying firms to incorporate in GMC, secure local regulatory approval and open corporate bank accounts through a coordinated process involving DK Bank, the city's official banking partner. GMC officials said the model is designed to reduce repeated compliance procedures for firms that already operate under established regulatory systems overseas. While DK Bank will continue carrying out standard Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering checks, GMC board member and digital assets lead Jigdrel Singay told Cointelegraph that companies completing the licensing pathway are expected to gain banking access through the coordinated structure.
Existing licenses from other jurisdictions would only help simplify due diligence requirements rather than replace local oversight, Singay said. He added that firms seeking approval must still comply with GMC's own regulatory standards and supervision process. Unlike the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, which allows licensed firms to operate across member states, GMC said its framework does not function as a passporting system for offshore entities. Between the stance of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during President Biden’s term and President Donald Trump’s campaign promises, it is not difficult to see why many investors chose to turn bullish on Bitcoin ($BTC) and other cryptocurrencies in November 2024.
Still, despite the optimism and a significant rally that followed the presidential race, the Republican billionaire’s second term has not been the flawless triumph for digital assets that 

many expected it to be.
Indeed, on November 4, election day, Bitcoin was changing hands at $67,811 while, at press time, the world’s premier cryptocurrency is at $80,509. Thus, a $1,000 investment made to celebrate the victory would, after a total 18.73% change, be worth $1,187.
Simultaneously, while trading in November 2024 would not have, by press time on May 13, 2026, yielded stellar returns, making a purchase during Donald Trump’s inauguration would have fared even worse.
Specifically, on January 20, 2025, Bitcoin was at $102,016, meaning it had fallen 21.08%, ensuring the hypothetical $1,000 investment would have turned to $789.18

More Than 332,000 Wallets Now Hold 10,000+ XRP
In a new post on X, on-chain analytics firm Santiment has talked about the latest trend in the population of the mid-to-large holders of XRP. The indicator of relevance here is the “Supply Distribution,” which tells us, among other things, the number of wallets that belong to a given group.

Addresses are divided into these cohorts based on the number of tokens that they are carrying in their balance. The 1 to 10 coins group, for example, includes all holders who own between 1 and 10 BTC. In the context of the current topic, the range of interest is the 10,000+ coins one (with there being no upper bound).

At the current exchange rate, the cutoff for this range converts to around $14,300. While this isn’t terribly high, it does act as a filter against the small entities. As such, the range can showcase the combined behavior of the mid-sized and large investor cohorts.

Now, here is the chart shared by Santiment that shows how the Supply Distribution for the 10,000+ coins group has changed on the XRP network over the last few months:
As displayed in the above graph, the total number of XRP wallets holding more than 10,000 tokens observed a plunge alongside the price crash from January-end/February-start. This means that some of the prominent investors of the cryptocurrency cleared out their balance amid the market panic.


While the decline was sharp, it lasted only briefly, and before long, the indicator was back to following a similar trajectory as before the crash: a gradual uptrend. The new uptrend maintained throughout March and April, and so far, it has also sustained in May.
