Crypto pundit Bull Theory has alluded to a Russell 2000 signal, which has always triggered every major Bitcoin bull market. This signal is again said to have triggered, signaling that another major bull run may be on the horizon.

Russell 2000 Signal Points To Another Bitcoin Bull Market
In an X post, Bull Theory stated that the Russell 2000 just gave the same signal that has triggered every major Bitcoin bull market in the past. The pundit further revealed that this index has broken out after consolidating for 64 months, which is its longest base in over 20 years. This matters because of how a bull run has followed every breakout.

The pundit pointed to the fourth quarters of 2012, 2016, and 2020, when the Russell broke out, after which Bitcoin bull markets followed. Now, the Russell has broken out again after 64 months, which is 17 months longer than the consolidation prior to the three previous breakouts. Bull Theory explained that the Russell 2000 is a leading indicator of liquidity and risk appetite, as when small caps rally, it means that capital is flowing to risk-on assets such as crypto.

Bull Theory also noted that the length of this consolidation matters, as it means liquidity was constrained for an unusually long time. However, the breakout signals that conditions have materially changed. Furthermore, the pundit stated that the ISM Manufacturing PMI confirms liquidity expansion, as the Bitcoin cycle has historically begun 4 to 5 months after the PMI bottoms.

As such, Bull Theory believes that the small caps and the PMI are sending the same message that liquidity is rising and risk appetite is returning, which means that the setup for a new Bitcoin bull market is here. Solana just got a lot faster. Anza, the core development organization behind Solana, has completed the first successful Alpenswitch on the Alpenglow community cluster. The result: transaction finalization times dropped from approximately 12.8 seconds to around 100-150 milliseconds.Finality is the point at which a transaction is considered irreversible. Until a transaction is finalized, there’s a theoretical window where it could be reversed or reorganized. Solana’s previous consensus mechanism, Tower BFT, paired with its block propagation system called Turbine, delivered finality in about 12.8 seconds. Alpenglow replaces both of those systems entirely.

Tower BFT gets swapped for a new consensus component called Votor. Turbine gets replaced by Rotor. Together, they form the backbone of the Alpenglow protocol.

Votor can finalize blocks in a single round if 80% of stake is participating and voting correctly. If participation dips to 60% of stake, it still gets the job done in two rounds. The system is designed to tolerate up to 20% malicious actors and an additional 20% of validators being offline simultaneously.

The Alpenglow protocol was designed by a research team from ETH Zurich, a group that had previously gained recognition for publishing critiques of Solana’s existing consensus mechanisms. Anza’s head of research confirmed the milestone, noting that the successful Alpenswitch on the community cluster validates the transition from theoretical design to working implementation.

The Alpenglow community cluster serves as a testing ground before any changes reach Solana’s mainnet, allowing developers and validators to observe the new consensus mechanism under realistic conditions without risking the stability of the production network.

Bitcoin Spot ETF Netflow Has Broken Its 5-Day Green Streak
According to data from SoSoValue, the Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have just registered a red day. The spot ETFs refer to investment vehicles that allow investors to gain indirect exposure to the cryptocurrency. Whenever a trader invests into one of these products, the fund buys and custodies the digital asset on their behalf. This makes it so that the holder still gains exposure to the cryptocurrency’s price movements without having to interact with any blockchain element at all.

In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved the spot ETFs back in January 2024. Since the spot ETFs allow for indirect investment, they have gained popularity among the more traditional traders like institutional entities, who can be cautious about digital asset infrastructure like wallets and exchanges. This traction has made the spot ETFs one of the cornerstones of the sector despite being active for only 2+ years.

As displayed in the graph, the Bitcoin spot ETFs have mostly seen net inflows recently, a behavior convergent with the wider trend of recovery in the digital asset sector.
