Bitcoin's current pullback toward the $76,275 level has significantly cooled the market, but technically the bullish scenario for 2026 still remains intact. While macroeconomic factors, particularly the declining probability of a Fed rate cut, continue to pressure spot price action, the weekly Bollinger Bands chart still points to preserved key support, leaving the path toward the upper boundary of the range at $91,091 per $BTC open.

Despite the local decline, Bitcoin on the weekly TradingView chart continues to trade above the Bollinger Bands middle line (20 SMA), which is currently positioned at $74,986. Holding this line remains the main condition for preserving the medium-term uptrend.

If the current test proves successful and price stabilizes above it, the upper Bollinger Band at $91,091 will regain its status as the market's primary price target.

An interesting and less obvious angle on the current situation comes from data provided by Glassnode. The main challenge for buyers right now lies not in the charts, but in investor psychology.

7.8 million $BTC underwater: at the current price near $76.7K, that massive volume of supply is being held by both short-term and long-term holders sitting on unrealized losses.

At $76.7k, more than 7.8M $BTC are currently held at a loss.

The supply overhang from buyers near cycle highs remains substantial, a weight the market will need to absorb before any sustained move higher becomes structurally credible.

Bipartisan support remains the main obstacle standing between the CLARITY Act and becoming law. That was the assessment from asset management firm Grayscale on Friday, even as the company said it believes the bill has a strong chance of passing.

Republicans hold 53 Senate seats, meaning at least seven Democrats would need to cross the aisle for the legislation to clear the full chamber.

CLARITY Act Advances

The CLARITY Act advanced out of the US Senate Banking Committee last Thursday after a vote that split mostly along party lines. All 13 Republican members voted in favor, joined by two Democrats.

Nine Democrats voted against it. The bill, which aims to give the crypto industry clearer rules around market structure, has been a subject of intense debate since its introduction in July 2025.

Grayscale pointed to the GENIUS Act as a possible guide for what comes next. That stablecoin legislation passed the Senate with 66 votes, including 18 Democrats.

Based on that track record, Grayscale said it believes similar bipartisan backing for the CLARITY Act is achievable, though it acknowledged that several hurdles remain before it can be signed into law.

Broader Economic Stakes

Venture capital firm a16z crypto argued Friday that the implications of the bill go well beyond the crypto sector. According to the firm, giving builders in the US a clear legal framework would drive wider domestic innovation.

Imagine a courtroom where one in five judges had money riding on the verdict. That’s roughly the situation playing out on Polymarket, the crypto prediction market that has become the go-to platform for betting on everything from elections to Fed rate decisions.

Nearly 20% of Polymarket dispute outcomes involve judges who are financially connected to the very market bets they’re ruling on.

Here’s the thing about Polymarket’s dispute resolution: it doesn’t use a panel of neutral arbitrators sitting in a mahogany-lined room. It uses $UMA, an optimistic oracle protocol where tokenholders vote on whether a market outcome is correct.

The process works like this. When a market resolves, there’s a 2-hour challenge period. If nobody objects, the resolution stands. If someone does object, they need to put up a $750 USDC bond to formally dispute it. The proposer who initially submitted the resolution also posts a $750 bond. Then $UMA tokenholders vote on who’s right.

The $750 bond requirement is meant to filter out frivolous disputes. But it also creates a meaningful barrier for small bettors who might have legitimate grievances but can’t justify risking $750 to contest a resolution.

$UMA has historically followed Polymarket’s own clarifications closely when ruling on disputes. No significant resolutions have been overturned against the platform’s guidance.

Critics have zeroed in on the governance structure itself. When tokenholders vote on outcomes, their incentive is supposed to be voting honestly to maintain the integrity of the $UMA system and preserve the value of their tokens. When the filing became public, the company’s shares, BTM, dropped an additional 20% in overnight trading. The NASDAQ-listed company had built its business around giving everyday people quick access to Bitcoin through physical kiosks — a model that regulators eventually made impossible to sustain.

The company filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 18 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Its entire network of more than 9,000 Bitcoin teller machines has been taken offline.

A Company Squeezed From Every Direction
CEO Alex Holmes said the decision came after weighing all available options. “After evaluating all options, we determined to initiate this court-supervised process to facilitate an orderly wind-down of operations and a sale of the company’s assets,” Holmes said in a press release.

Both US and Canadian entities are included in the bankruptcy proceedings. The company also plans additional restructuring in Canada and a wind-down of non-US operations under applicable laws.

Holmes pointed to a wave of regulatory pressure as the main driver behind the collapse. Bitcoin ATM operators across North America have faced increasingly strict compliance requirements, including new transaction limits, outright bans in some jurisdictions, enforcement actions, and lawsuits.

Bitcoin Depot responded by tightening its own controls — adding stronger identity verification, customer fraud warnings, and lower transaction caps — but those measures could not reverse the financial damage already done.
