Crypto Today: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP extend decline as weak sentiment, ETF outflows weigh
Cryptocurrency prices are broadly edging lower on Monday, with Bitcoin ($BTC) trading below $77,000. This downturn represents a 7% pullback from Bitcoin’s May high of $82,850, underscoring a broad shift toward risk-off sentiment across crypto markets.

Altcoins are following Bitcoin’s downward trajectory, with Ethereum ($ETH) retesting key support at $2,100 and $XRP consolidating near the $1.38 demand zone as bearish sentiment persists.

Crypto market sentiment cools amid capital outflows

Demand for crypto assets has steadily waned, mirroring sustained selling in the broader markets. This shift is clearly captured by the Crypto Fear & Greed Index, which drops sharply to 28 in the fear territory on Monday, compared to an average of 48 in the neutral territory observed last week. Growing risk-off sentiment could further weaken crypto assets, breaking the structure from neutral to strongly bearish.

Institutional investors expressed their lack of interest by ramping up withdrawals from spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs suffered $1 billion in total outflows last week, the highest since late January.

Despite the outflows, cumulative inflows remain positive at $58.34 billion while net assets average $104.29 billion, according to SoSoValue data. If market sentiment continues to deteriorate and outflows persist, Bitcoin’s reemergence above $100,000 could remain a pipe dream.

Ethereum continued its corrective stance, with spot ETF outflows totaling $255 million last week, following roughly $70 million in inflows the previous week. Cumulative inflows now stand at $11.83 billion, with net assets under management averaging $12.93 billion.

Goldman Sachs Exits XRP and Solana ETFs, Cuts ETH ETF Holdings by 70%Goldman Sachs fully exited XRP and Solana ETF positions worth about $154 million in Q1 2026 and cut its Ethereum (ETH) ETF holdings by around 70% to $114 million, according to its latest 13F filing. The firm retained a large Bitcoin (BTC) ETF position valued at roughly $700 million, indicating a continued preference for Bitcoin over major altcoins in its ETF exposure.

Goldman Sachs Fully Exits XRP and Solana ETFs, Cuts ETH ETFs by 70%
According to Goldman Sachs’ latest Q1 2026 SEC 13F filing, the bank fully liquidated its XRP and Solana ETF positions during the quarter. The bank previously held approximately $154M in XRP ETFs across issuers, including Bitwise, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton, and 21Shares, and around $108M in Solana ETFs, with both exposures now reduced to zero.

At the same time, the bank also reduced its Ethereum ETF exposure by approximately 70% to around $114 million, primarily in iShares Ethereum ETF (ETHA), and maintained a dominant $700 million Bitcoin ETF allocation down modestly by 10%.

Why Goldman Sachs Is Reducing Altcoin ETF Holdings
Notably, the bank is engaging in a risk repricing exercise within crypto beta, scaling back exposure to XRP and Solana due to their higher volatility profiles and comparatively weaker institutional liquidity depth versus BTC. 

This aligns with a broader “flight to quality” dynamic, where BTC continues to dominate as the only crypto asset with consistently recognized macro-store-of-value characteristics in institutional portfolios.

The move comes after Hyperliquid ETFs began trading in the US last week, starting with the 21Shares Hyperliquid ETF on Nasdaq and followed by the Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF on the NYSE. The two $HYPE ETFs have accumulated more than $5.6 million in total inflows, extending early institutional demand for exposure to the token.

Bitwise launched its Hyperliquid ETF under the ticker BHYP on May 15, with a 0.34% sponsor fee and a temporary fee waiver for the first month on the fund’s first $500 million in assets.

The launch followed 21Shares’ Hyperliquid ETF, which debuted on Nasdaq earlier in the week. The 21Shares product drew about $1.2 million in net inflows and $1.8 million in trading volume on its first day.

Bitwise’s decision to hold $HYPE from part of its management fee ties the issuer more directly to Hyperliquid’s token model. Hyperliquid routes roughly 99% of protocol fees through its Assistance Fund to repurchase $HYPE creating a revenue-linked structure that has helped define the token’s investment case.
