BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETP (IB1T) crossed $1.1 billion in assets under management as of May 1, 2026, holding approximately 14,200 $BTC across major European exchanges including Euronext Amsterdam, Euronext Paris, and Xetra Frankfurt.

In just over a year since its March 2025 launch, IB1T has become one of the fastest-growing Bitcoin investment products in Europe. The institutional appetite it represents is no longer a U.S.-only story.

Europe Finally Has Its Own Regulated Bitcoin On-Ramp

IB1T is physically backed — Bitcoin held in cold storage through Coinbase Custody International — giving European institutions direct, auditable exposure without the operational complexity of self-custody.

It operates under the EU’s MiCA regulation — a framework that standardises custody, transparency, and investor protection rules across all member states.

That matters because for years, European pension funds, asset managers, and wealth managers had no equivalent to what U.S. institutions accessed through IBIT. IB1T fills that gap — compliantly, on familiar exchanges, at a familiar cost.

The product carries a total expense ratio of 0.15% — supported by a fee waiver in place until December 31, 2026 — making it directly competitive with U.S. spot products on cost.

European allocators have cited currency risk, inflation, and geopolitical developments as the primary drivers behind their Bitcoin exposure decisions.

IB1T’s MiCA-compliant structure removes the compliance barriers that previously kept many of them on the sideline.

$TIA’s price broke above the critical $0.430 resistance after buyers accelerated price expansion during the latest breakout phase. The rally pushed the price towards the $0.463 resistance zone, which previously rejected bullish continuation attempts during April’s recovery structure.

Buyers also defended the breakout region successfully, turning the former resistance into an immediate short-term support as higher lows continued to form across the chart.

The broader structure reflected strengthening bullish conditions after weeks of range-bound movement between the $0.34 and $0.38-levels.

Meanwhile, the DMI structure showed buyers maintaining strong directional control throughout the rally. The +DI climbed to 32.67 while the -DI weakened sharply towards 5.74, confirming that bullish pressure dominated the current structure.

ADX also surged to 38.30 – Evidence that trend strength strengthened considerably during the breakout. However, sellers still defended the $0.463 region aggressively.

If buyers sustain pressure above $0.430, $TIA could challenge higher resistance zones instead of returning towards consolidation.

The US banking lobby is mounting a last-minute push to stall the CLARITY Act just days before its scheduled Senate Banking Committee markup on May 14.

The American Bankers Association, the Bank Policy Institute, the Consumer Bankers Association, the Financial Services Forum, and the Independent Community Bankers of America issued a joint statement this week rejecting the compromise stablecoin yield language drafted by Senators Thom Tillis and Angela Alsobrooks. The coalition said the proposed language falls short of its policy goals and leaves dangerous loopholes that could trigger deposit flight from traditional banks.

The banking groups argue that Section 404 of the CLARITY Act still permits crypto platforms to offer rewards tied to account balances and how long users hold assets, which they say amounts to offering deposit interest under a different name. “Research demonstrates that yield-earning stablecoins could reduce all consumer, small-business, and farm loans by one-fifth or more,” the coalition said in its joint statement, adding that it is “imperative that Congress get this right.”

Lummis and Tillis push back

The response from the bill’s sponsors was immediate. Senator Cynthia Lummis, who chairs the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets, posted on X that the finalized bipartisan text “is the culmination of months of hard work to deliver a compromise on yield we can all live with.” Senator Tillis, who co-authored the deal, was sharper in his pushback, warning that certain factions within traditional finance may simply oppose any version of the CLARITY Act and are using the stablecoin yield debate as a mechanism to stall the legislation indefinitely.

Tillis’s closing line in his public defense left little room for ambiguity: “Some in the banking industry may not want either of these things to happen, and we respectfully agree to disagree.”
