We're more than halfway to the Bitcoin blockchain's next mining reward halving, a programmed supply slowdown that occurs every 210,000 blocks. There are now fewer than 100,000 blocks to go, and bears should take note even though they appear to have the upper hand in the market at the moment.

To appreciate the importance of this number, it helps to understand what a block actually is. The Bitcoin blockchain is a decentralized ledger containing a record of every transaction since its inception. Miners compete to add batches of transactions to the chain, and are rewarded with newly created bitcoin. A new batch, or block, is added roughly every 10 minutes, and miners currently receive 3.125 $BTC each time.

In less than two years, or around April 12, 2028, that figure will drop by 50% to 1.5625 $BTC, based on the number of blocks remaining.

That's important because bitcoin bear markets have tended to end between 12 and 18 months before the next halving. This means the process could begin as early as October, a projection veteran chart trader Peter Brandt recently made.

It also means bears could continue to dominate price action for at least the next couple of months. There are plenty of risks, such as elevated oil prices, hardening Treasury yields and ETF outflows, that could deepen the selloff in the near term.

According to Deribit's Chief Commercial Officer Jean-David Péquignot, the $76,000 to $77,000 price zone is the immediate critical support level for bitcoin.

"A clean breakdown here brings $70,000 to $72,000 into view; the next major level below that is the $60,000 level," he told CoinDesk. Stay alert.

SEC will no longer silence settling defendants, says The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has rescinded its decades-old policy that barred defendants in enforcement settlements from publicly denying the agency’s allegations.
In a statement released Monday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said the repeal removes a rule first adopted in 1972 that required settling parties to agree not to challenge the agency’s claims in public. Regulators said the policy had created the impression that the SEC was attempting to insulate itself from criticism, while also placing the agency out of step with most other federal regulators.

“For more than 50 years, the Commission has conditioned settlement on a defendant’s promise not to publicly deny the Commission’s allegations. I am pleased that we are rescinding the no-deny policy today,” SEC Chair Paul Atkins said. “This rescission ends the policy prohibiting such criticism by settling defendants.”

Under the old framework, companies or individuals settling with the SEC could neither deny the allegations nor allow others to issue denials on their behalf. According to the rule’s original text, the agency adopted the policy because it did not want settlements to create the impression that sanctions were being imposed over conduct that never occurred.

In addition, the funding rates also show a bullish bias. Chiliz’s funding rates flipped positive on Sunday and surge to 0.0043% on Tuesday, indicating that longs are paying shorts. Historically, as shown in the chart below, when the funding rates have flipped from negative to positive and risen, the $CHZ price has rallied sharply.

CoinGlass’ long-to-short ratio for $CHZ read 1.01 on Tuesday, after sitting in the red territory for over a week. This ratio, being above one, reflects bullish sentiment in the market, as more traders are betting on the asset’s price to rise.



Chiliz trades at $0.049 on Tuesday, maintaining a constructive bullish bias as it holds well above the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), which are clustered between roughly $0.041 and $0.043.

$CHZ has reclaimed the 50% retracement at $0.047 as support, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 62 leans toward bullish momentum without yet signaling overbought conditions. The Moving Aver
