The crypto market is preparing for a wave of major token unlocks this week, with projects like Pyth Network (PYTH), LayerZero (ZRO), and Kaito drawing significant investor attention. As billions of tokens enter circulation, traders are closely watching for potential price volatility and increased selling pressure.
Pyth Network (PYTH) leads the list with one of the largest unlocks of the week. On May 20, approximately 2.12 billion PYTH tokens — around 21.3% of total supply — are scheduled to unlock, representing a value of more than $90 million and nearly 37% of the project’s market capitalization.
LayerZero (ZRO) will also unlock around $32.6 million worth of tokens on May 20, equal to roughly 10% of its market cap. Meanwhile, Kaito (KAITO), one of the more closely watched newer projects, is set to release over $8 million in tokens into circulation.
Other projects including Yooldo (ESPORTS), Capybobo (PYBOBO), ETHGAS (GWEI), and YZY are also scheduled for unlock events over the coming days. Some of these unlocks represent more than 20% of their market value, raising concerns about short-term market pressure.
Large token unlocks often increase circulating supply, and if early investors, team members, or institutions decide to sell, price swings can become more aggressive. However, unlocks do not always lead to immediate declines. Projects with strong ecosystems, active communities, and sustained demand can sometimes absorb the additional supply more smoothly.
With crypto markets already reacting to global macro uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and shifting capital flows, this week’s unlock events could further amplify volatility across the sector.
Investors will now be closely monitoring price action, liquidity, and on-chain activity as these tokens officially enter the market.

Crypto.news price data showed $ZEC is down more than 5% in 24 hours and over 8% across seven days. The token remained up about 46% over the past month, keeping attention on whether buyers can defend the latest rally.

Crypto Patel said $ZEC had formed a bullish structure after reacting from a weekly fair value gap. The analyst pointed to a market structure shift, a pullback into a discount zone, and buy-side liquidity above price.

He listed upside targets at $643 and $750, while placing invalidation at a one-day close below $294. The view was technical only and called for confirmation before any entry, meaning the setup remains conditional rather than confirmed.
Ardi gave a more cautious view, saying larger $ZEC moves over the past six months have depended more on perpetual futures than spot demand. He said spot volume has made new lows while aggregated perp volume has made new highs.

That structure can make a rally more exposed to sharp unwinds if momentum fades. Ardi compared the current setup with the December lower high near $540, after which $ZEC later traded back toward $185.

Moreover, crypto.news reported that Zcash extended its recent rally, but analysts warned that social activity and on-chain support had not kept pace with the move. That report said lower retail attention could make a price rise harder to sustain.

But according to recent testing shared by BNB developers, the bigger problem may not actually be cryptography itself — it could be the massive increase in network data and infrastructure load that comes with quantum-resistant systems.
The tests showed that post-quantum cryptography performed better than many expected. Transaction verification remained relatively stable, and the network continued functioning without catastrophic slowdowns.
The real issue appeared elsewhere: data size.
Today, a standard blockchain signature is relatively small, around 65 bytes in BNB’s example. After implementing quantum-resistant signatures, that number jumped to roughly 2.4 kilobytes per signature.
That change creates a major ripple effect across the entire blockchain:
• Average transaction size increased from about 110 bytes to roughly 2.5 KB
• Block sizes expanded from around 110 KB to nearly 2 MB
• Nodes needed far more bandwidth to synchronize globally
At first glance, larger files may not seem like a serious issue. But in blockchain networks, where nodes constantly exchange data across the world in real time, even small delays matter.
Bigger blocks and slower propagation can lead to:
• Increased network congestion
• Temporary chain splits
• Lower throughput efficiency
• Slower validator synchronization
Performance was directly impacted during testing as well. After enabling quantum-resistant signatures, throughput reportedly dropped from around 4,973 TPS to approximately 2,997 TPS.

The governor of Minnesota signed into law a bill allowing banks and credit unions to offer Bitcoin custody services to their customers.

Under the new law, financial institutions operating in the state will be able to legally offer services such as storing, managing, and protecting the private keys of Bitcoin and other digital assets on behalf of their clients.

The law regulates banks’ digital asset custody activities under the heading “Virtual Currency Custody Services.” According to the regulation, financial institutions will be required to conduct virtual asset custody services in a secure and auditable manner. Furthermore, written policies and procedures will need to be established regarding risk management, cybersecurity, internal control mechanisms, business continuity, and compliance processes.
