Ethereum (ETH), the leading altcoin by market cap, is approaching the $2,200 level once again, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) leads the rally with a 6% pump.

However, $ONDO, the native coin of Ondo Finance, is the best performer among the top 50 cryptocurrencies by market cap.

$ONDO is up 13% in the last 24 hours, with the bulls now targeting the 4-hour swing high above $0.48.

Momentum indicators have also flipped bullish, suggesting that buyers are now in control.

$ONDO is trading at $0.388 at press time on Tuesday, up by 13% over the past 24 hours.

The primary catalyst behind $ONDO’s rally is the announcement by Ondo Finance that its tokenized stocks TVL has hit the $1.5 billion mark.

According to Ondo Finance, this growth highlights the increasing demand for on-chain access to equities and exchange-traded funds.

The team revealed that the five largest assets by TVL include CRCLon (Circle), IVVon (S&P 500 ETF), MUon (Micron), NVDAon (Nvidia), and IBITon (Bitcoin ETF).

Together, these five tokenized securities account for approximately 25% of the entire tokenized stock market on the platform.

The concentration reflects strong investor appetite for blue-chip technology stocks, major index funds, and crypto-linked ETFs.

This latest development comes amid rising demand for tokenized stocks.

JPMorgan ether and altcoin analysts said the tokens won’t catch bitcoin without a major lift in network activity.

JPMorgan said ether and the broader altcoin market are unlikely to reverse a multi-year underperformance against bitcoin without a meaningful pickup in network activity, DeFi adoption and real-world use cases.

The bank’s analysts, led by managing director Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou, argued that bitcoin continues to outperform ether across nearly every institutional metric. The note lands as bitcoin trades near $76,760 with ether near $2,260.

Bitcoin spot ETFs have recovered roughly two-thirds of outflows tied to the Iran conflict selloff, while ether spot ETFs have recovered only about one-third, JPMorgan said. CME futures positioning in bitcoin sits close to pre-crash levels, while ether has yet to catch up.

“And this underperformance trend that started in 2023 is unlikely to change unless we see meaningful improvements in network activity, DeFi and real world applications,” Panigirtzoglou wrote.

Upcoming Ethereum upgrades Glamsterdam and Hegota are designed to improve scalability and lower transaction costs. JPMorgan cautioned that previous upgrades failed to drive stronger onchain activity and instead reduced Layer 2 costs and main-chain fees, weakening the ETH burn mechanism and increasing net supply.

The bank’s previous warnings on Ethereum upgrades were covered on crypto.news last week, with analysts arguing technical improvements alone cannot offset reduced burning unless demand grows enough to absorb the supply increase.

Beyond ether, JPMorgan said altcoins have underperformed bitcoin since 2023 because of tighter liquidity, weaker market depth and breadth, slower DeFi growth and repeated hacks and security breaches.

Bitcoin failing to break above its key moving average around $83,000 sparked renewed fears that another brutal leg lower is coming.

But this cycle, K33 Research argued in a Tuesday report, is behaving very differently from the crashes of 2014, 2018 and 2022 crashes that happened after similar rejections.

In those periods, bitcoin rallied aggressively back toward the 200-day moving average before quickly rolling over again. Those rebounds were fueled by rapidly rebuilding leverage and bullish positioning that eventually collapsed under their own weight.

"The current slow grind has not produced such a dynamic," wrote K33's head of research Vetle Lunde. "Derivatives data instead points to uniquely pessimistic sentiment."

Bitcoin's 30-day average funding rate has now stayed negative for 81 consecutive days, nearing its record longest stretch, showing traders have consistently leaned bearish even as prices recovered from the February lows near $60,000.

Meanwhile, annualized basis on CME bitcoin futures recently dropped below 2.5%, levels typically associated with periods of extreme caution, the report said.

Still, there are warning signs, Lunde said.

Open interest across bitcoin derivatives remains elevated, raising the risk of another volatility event if prices weaken further. Meanwhile, U.S. bitcoin ETF outflows accelerated to $1.6 billion in five days as prices softened near the $83,000 area, close to the average cost basis of many bitcoin ETF holders.

K33 said that historically investors tended to sell more aggressively when prices recover back toward breakeven after prolonged drawdowns, and that pattern appears to be emerging again.
