The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the DFINITY Foundation have announced a partnership in sovereign cloud infrastructure and decentralized artificial intelligence. The parties intend to explore how these technologies can be applied in public sector projects and the digital transformation of government bodies, civil society organizations, and UNDP initiatives. The DFINITY Foundation is developing decentralized cloud and blockchain infrastructure, while UNDP focuses on sustainable development and support for the public sector.
The partnership will develop along three main lines. Within the SDG Blockchain Accelerator, UNDP country offices will test sovereign cloud infrastructure, AI development tools, and decentralized AI applications for development projects. The Future of Work Academy will help civil society organizations create and test their own applications. The Government Blockchain Academy will work with governments and state institutions to develop pilot solutions tailored to local and national priorities.
The projects will utilize DFINITY's Cloud Engines and the Caffeine AI platform. They will allow organizations to build and maintain applications in a secure digital environment, the management of which remains at the local level. The partners will also explore the potential of these technologies for protecting sensitive data, increasing the resilience of digital infrastructure, and developing local technical competencies.
