South Korean financial group Mirae Asset Financial Group plans to build a digital asset business worth 150 trillion won ($109 billion) based on the Digital X cryptocurrency exchange. This was stated by the founder and chairman of the group's board of directors, Park Hyun-joo.
He presented these ambitious plans during a meeting with Digital X employees in Seoul. In July 2026, the group's non-financial subsidiary Mirae Asset Consulting acquired a 97.15% stake in the Korbit cryptocurrency exchange, after which the platform was renamed Digital X.
According to Park, the digital asset division should become one of the key elements of the Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy. The group has about 1,500 trillion won in client assets and plans to use part of this base to develop the new business.
"Our initial goal is to make Digital X a key pillar of the Mirae Asset 3.0 concept and grow the digital asset division to 150 trillion won," said Park.
Mirae Asset also expects the division to become profitable by 2027. To further scale it, the group may invest up to an additional 300 billion won in capital. Depending on profit growth rates, Mirae Asset may conduct a private placement of shares worth between 200 billion and 300 billion won in the first quarter of next year.
Digital X also plans to focus on four main areas: cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokenization of real-world assets (RWA), and security tokens (STO). Furthermore, the company is preparing for the tokenization of physical assets, specifically gold, silver, and electricity, and also plans to develop an on-chain finance ecosystem.
As part of its strategy, Digital X will also create new financial products and services based on digital assets and make direct investments. The group's long-term goal is to create a global platform that, under Digital X's leadership, will integrate traditional and digital assets into a single financial system.
As a reminder, in July 2026, we reported that South Korea would accelerate the development of the blockchain sector and is preparing a digital asset law.
