Bitcoin ETF Sees $463 Million in Outflows as ETH Defies Trend to Attract Capital: Could $2,500 Become a New Launching Pad?

Publicado a 2026-09-15Actualizado a 2026-09-15

Resumen

Bitcoin ETFs recorded four consecutive days of net outflows last week, totaling $462.73 million. In contrast, ETH ETFs saw a single-day inflow of $216.41 million on Friday, achieving approximately $197 million in weekly net inflows and marking their fourth consecutive week of inflows. The upcoming FOMC meeting and CLARITY vote will test whether this divergence in capital flows can be sustained.

Institutional Capital Begins to Differentiate Among Crypto Assets

Last week saw a clear divergence in the flow of funds for US crypto ETFs. Bitcoin ETFs experienced redemptions every trading day from September 8th to 11th, with a weekly net outflow reaching $462.73 million, ending the previous trend of three consecutive weeks of inflows. During the same period, the price of Bitcoin retreated to around $77,000, and the macro environment became more tense due to inflation and interest rate hike expectations.

Bitcoin ETF trading volume declined by approximately 28% sequentially to $8.76 billion, while ETH ETF trading volume conversely increased by about 54% to $5.14 billion. The combined fund flow for five major categories of crypto ETFs shifted from a net inflow of about $1.24 billion the previous week to a net outflow of approximately $263 million, indicating a clear contraction in institutional risk appetite, but not a synchronized retreat from all assets.

ETH Completed a Flow Reversal on Friday

ETH ETFs came under pressure at the beginning of the week, but saw a single-day net inflow of $216.41 million on Friday, exceeding the size of the final weekly net inflow. This capital injection reversed the prior weakness, resulting in a weekly net inflow of about $197 million for ETH ETFs and extending their streak of consecutive net inflows to four weeks.

This set of data illustrates that while Bitcoin faced sustained redemptions, some institutional capital remained willing to allocate to ETH. Whether the price can stabilize around $2,500 depends not only on spot buying interest but also on whether ETF flows maintain their relative strength.

FOMC and Regulatory Vote to Determine the Next Direction of Flows

XRP and Solana ETFs also attracted net inflows of $18.98 million and $10.30 million respectively last week, with ETH, XRP, and Solana combined attracting approximately $226 million. Capital flows are shifting from broad-based momentum chasing to more selective allocation, with ETH being the most prominent beneficiary of this shift.

The Federal Reserve will hold its meeting from September 15th to 16th, with interest rate futures suggesting a relatively high probability of a 25-basis-point rate hike; the US Senate is also scheduled to hold a procedural vote on a new version of the CLARITY Act on Tuesday. These two events may determine whether ETH fund flows can continue to lead and whether the $2,500 level can transition from resistance to effective support.

Coinbase Q4 Market Outlook: Price Bottom Formed, Upside Opportunity Remains Despite Rate Hikes Authors: Glassnode, Coinbase Institutional Coinbase Institutional holds a positive outlook for Q4 2026. Despite the Fed resuming tightening, Bitcoin rose 43% in Q3 to $83,600, indicating an initial recovery. In September, the Fed raised rates 25bps to 3.75%–4.00%, the first hike since July 2023, while the 10-year Treasury yield climbed 85bps to 5.29%, a 2002 high. Markets expect ~64bps of further hikes over six months. Bitcoin still outperformed gold and several equity markets, suggesting demand is driven by more than liquidity alone. On-chain conditions improved notably. Entity-adjusted NUPL rose from 0.11 to 0.38, re-entering the "optimism/anxiety" zone. Profitable supply rose from 46% to 71%. Supply unmoved for over a year grew by ~340K BTC, showing long-term holders largely held through the rally. MVRV reached 1.56, with realized price near $53.6K, indicating normalized but not overheated valuation. Caution remains. Supply moved in the past three months rose 16% to 2.8M BTC, and long-term holders turned slightly net-sell in August. About 1.7M BTC last changed hands between $89.6K and $93.7K, forming dense supply overhead. Long-term supports keep expanding: ETH outperformed BTC by ~20%, Ethereum DeFi TVL rose from $37B to $53B, and US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $7B net inflows. Q4 outlook stays positive; pullbacks toward the 200-day moving average are seen as accumulation opportunities. Key risks include 10-year yields toward 5.5%, oil near $90, and a break below the 200-day MA (~$71K) with renewed ETF outflows.

Just Now, Mythos 5 Cracked a Major Quantum Computing Challenge

Anthropic's Mythos 5 has achieved a breakthrough in quantum computing by autonomously designing quantum circuits that outperform human-optimized designs. Given only plain-language descriptions of eight foundational quantum circuits in chemistry, optimization, physics simulation, and number theory, the AI ran a fully automated closed loop: it wrote circuit designs in Python, received scores based on qubit count and gate count, and iteratively refined its work without human intervention. Within 53 hours, it beat the best publicly available human designs on all eight tasks. Two results stand out. First, in modular inversion for elliptic curve cryptography, existing divsteps algorithms were considered impractical on quantum computers because they generate branch history that cannot be discarded due to reversibility requirements. Mythos 5 derived entirely new algebraic identities to reconstruct that history from the result, producing the first reversible quantum divsteps implementation that needs no branch storage—cutting gate count by 17x with only 12% more qubits. Second, it redesigned the Reed-Solomon decoder inside Google's Decoding Quantum Interferometry algorithm, replacing the extended Euclidean approach with Berlekamp-Massey, which matches quantum circuit constraints. It then used a self-written simulator running 403 million samples to measure exception rates and reduced memory from 665 qubits to 19, achieving a 12x reduction in gate count. The work suggests software can compensate for immature quantum hardware, potentially accelerating useful quantum computing by years.
