Matt Hougan, Investment Director at Bitwise, stated that despite Strategy selling over $200 million worth of Bitcoin, the rise in BTC's price indicates strong market demand. Hougan noted that the sale does not suggest the company is facing financial difficulties but was executed as part of capital management.
According to Hougan's assessment, Strategy's Bitcoin sale should be viewed as part of a capital management strategy aimed at meeting the company's needs for dividend payments and cash management. Therefore, this transaction does not indicate increased selling pressure in the Bitcoin market or that Strategy was forced to reduce its position due to funding issues.
Strategy holds a significant market position as one of the largest institutional companies that have long held Bitcoin on its balance sheet. Investors closely monitor the company's buys and sells due to their potential impact on Bitcoin's price.
However, Hougan stated that he expects Strategy's influence on Bitcoin's price to diminish over time. According to the Bitwise executive, as institutional investors increase their market weight, they will increasingly take on the role of the primary marginal buyers of Bitcoin.
This shift is seen as a potential expansion of the Bitcoin market to a broader investor base. Specifically, the growth of spot Bitcoin ETFs, asset managers, and other institutional investment tools contributes to the diversification of capital entering the market.
Hougan's comments suggest that the continued price increase, despite large sales by Bitcoin investors, indicates the presence of enough buyers in the market to absorb these sales. This supports the assessment that demand for Bitcoin may strengthen regardless of individual company transactions.
