Analysts at Grayscale Research argue that the current valuation of the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash ($ZEC) does not fully reflect its potential and that the project possesses characteristics which, in the long term, could challenge Bitcoin's (BTC) market share.
In their assessment, the company described Zcash as a decentralized digital currency similar to Bitcoin but noted that $ZEC, unlike Bitcoin, offers users broader financial privacy capabilities.
According to Grayscale, one of the most significant advantages of Zcash is the technology that allows users to keep their transaction information private. The company believes financial privacy could become an even more crucial feature, especially in an environment where surveillance and data analysis using artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly prevalent.
The report indicated that Zcash may differ from Bitcoin not only in privacy features but also in its commitment to adapting to technological progress.
Grayscale stated that Zcash developers are working on solutions to long-term challenges, such as cybersecurity risks that may arise in the future due to quantum computers. It was also noted that strengthening Zcash's connectivity with various blockchain networks through technologies referred to as "intents" could expand the project's scope of application.
According to the company, features like financial privacy, technological adaptability, and cross-chain interoperability are among the key elements that could enable Zcash to compete with Bitcoin's strong network effect.
Grayscale noted that, despite the price of $ZEC having increased approximately 19 times over the past year, Zcash's total market capitalization still constitutes less than 1% of Bitcoin's market cap.
The company argued that such a significant valuation gap between the two cryptocurrencies suggests there is still substantial room for competition in this sector. In Grayscale's view, Zcash could continue to increase its share in the cryptocurrency market if it can expand its technological advantages and use cases.
However, the company also emphasized that investing in Zcash carries high risk. Grayscale stated that even if Zcash successfully gains market share relative to Bitcoin, one should not expect continuous or linear growth in the price of $ZEC.
