Bitcoin price has a $64.5k trap as Sunday’s close forces traders between a $68k relief rally or a drop to $60k

Bitcoin is trading near $64,500 this weekend, sitting between $65,000 resistance above and $62,500 support below, the two prices that will define its week.

Bitcoin climbed as high as $66,990 on July 21, a one-month high, before slipping back under $65,000 and turning that former breakout line into overhead resistance. Trading volume over the past 24 hours has run more than 40% below its recent average, a reminder that whatever prints over the weekend needs Sunday's close to confirm it.

Four prices now split the weekend into a decision map, two above the current range and two below it.

A close back above $65,000 would show that the July 24 drop was a failed breakdown, with $68,000 waiting beyond that as the level where the July rebound would start to look durable. On the downside, the structure Bitcoin has built since early July depends on holding $62,500, and the floor it has spent months defending sits at $60,000.

Bitcoin trades near $64,100, with $65,000 and $68,000 marking upside tests and $62,500 and $60,000 defining downside risk.

Ethereum loses steam as bears target lower support

Ethereum faced a strong rejection after testing the $1,950 supply zone, where sellers quickly regained control and halted the recent recovery.

That rejection pushed price out of the ascending channel, signaling that bullish pressure had weakened considerably.

The RSI fell to 54.05, while remaining below its 59.40 moving average, indicating that buying strength continued fading instead of improving.

Price action also started forming lower highs after the rejection, reinforcing the growing bearish outlook.

As a result, $1,800 has emerged as the next likely support level as downside pressure builds.

A move toward that level now appears increasingly probable based on the current structure.

Should selling pressure accelerate after reaching $1,800, Ethereum would likely continue lower toward $1,700, where the next major demand zone could attract renewed buying interest.

Meanwhile, the same cannot be said about other major crypto corporate holders, while another one of Elon Musk’s companies, SpaceX, which went public recently, made a small BTC transfer, raising some questions.

It’s worth noting that Bitcoin was not mentioned extensively during the recently reported earnings call, but the absence of any transaction was enough to reassure investors that there’s no change in the company’s holdings. This means that the EV maker’s crypto position remains the same – 11,509 BTC, making it one of the largest publicly traded corporate holders of the primary cryptocurrency.

The Musk-led entity entered the Bitcoin market in early 2021, making a $1.5 billion purchase in one of the most influential corporate crypto investments ever announced. However, it later sold 10% of its holdings to test BTC’s liquidity before disposing of 75% of its remaining position during the 2022 bear market. At the time, Musk said the firm needed to strengthen its cash position amid the growing economic uncertainty.

Since then, the company has halted any sales or purchases, leaving its stash untouched. Quarter after quarter, Tesla has reported the same 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet despite the cryptocurrency’s rallies, corrections, new all-time highs, and significant volatility.

This makes Tesla one of the few major corporate holders of BTC whose strategy has remained unchanged for over three years. Musk’s SpaceX has also retained its BTC holdings untouched lately. The latest SEC filing before its IPO revealed that it still owns 18,712 BTC. However, it made a minor transfer in early July, which caused some FUD but didn’t lead to anything more profound.

The world's largest stablecoin issuer pays roughly $2.9 billion a year in fees to blockchains it does not control. Its answer was to back two competing chains at once: Plasma, the $373 million DeFi-flavored bet, and Stable, the enterprise rail where USDT is the gas. Companies do not usually finance both armies in a war, but then no company has ever been positioned quite like Tether. The issuer of USDT sits atop the most profitable simple business in finance, collecting Treasury yield on the reserves behind roughly $150 billion of circulating dollars, and it watches, every day, a substantial slice of its ecosystem's economics leak sideways: the fees users pay to move USDT accrue not to Tether but to the blockchains USDT lives on, a bill that research houses have tallied near $2.9 billion a year, flowing mostly to Ethereum validators and, above all, to Tron, the chain that quietly became the developing world's dollar-remittance backbone.
