The levels of $0.0169 and $0.031 have been critical since December. Following a daily-level internal structure breakout on February 14, MON has consistently formed higher lows. After clearing $0.0314, the next target is the supply zone between $0.046 and $0.048, just below its all-time high.

South Korea is kicking off a pilot that will replace government expense credit cards with blockchain‐based deposit tokens.

Blockchain Goes TradFi?
The Ministry of Finance and Economy announced on an official press release that the pilot project for the execution of national treasury funds using blockchain‐based digital currency has been approved.

This new official venture marks the second time in which South Korea’s government uses digital currency and deposit tokens for the execution of national treasury funds, following another pilot project for building electric‐vehicle charging facilities and paying national subsidies together with the Ministry of Environment.

Deposit tokens are digital claims on commercial bank deposits, issued on permissioned blockchain rails, spendable by citizens and companies at participating merchants and service providers.

In simpler words, deposit tokens are digital versions of the money already kept in a normal bank account. The bank “wraps” those deposits into tokens on a private (permissioned) blockchain, and you can then spend those tokens at approved shops or service providers, just like using a card or mobile wallet.

In contrast with Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), that are digital versions of a country’s official money, created and managed directly by its central bank, deposit tokens have programmable settlement, transparent tracking of public money, and real‐time reporting for the state.

Pilot Details
The press release states that under the current National Treasury Funds Management Act, business promotion costs and related operating expenses are required to be paid with government purchase cards, effectively blocking the use of deposit tokens. Citi analysts say holding both gold and bitcoin can improve portfolio performance compared with traditional bond-and-equity mixes. In a new report cited by CNBC, analyst Alex Saunders said a 5% allocation to gold enhances portfolio efficiency, while splitting that exposure between gold and bitcoin produces stronger results.

The analysis found the mixed allocation improves returns in bond bull markets and provides resilience during bear-steepening cycles tied to fiscal concerns and rising inflation risk.

Citi noted that bitcoin often performs better than gold when bond markets weaken, highlighting recent gains amid geopolitical and equity market stress. Over the past two months, bitcoin has risen 9%, while spot gold has declined 4%. Saunders said the tactical appeal of a combined allocation lies in balancing the relative popularity of gold with bitcoin’s growth characteristics.

Bitcoin price analysis

Bitcoin’s move above $75,000 reflects more than a technical breakout; it signals a shift in how markets are valuing the asset amid rising geopolitical tension. After rebounding from a February low near $60,000, bitcoin has climbed roughly 23%, holding firm even as traditional markets face pressure.

Traders now view the $75,000–$76,000 range as a critical resistance zone, with a breakout potentially opening a path toward $80,000, while failure could send price back toward the low-$70,000s or below.

Underneath the surface, derivatives data suggests a market positioned for a potential squeeze. Funding rates on perpetual futures have remained negative for over six weeks, indicating persistent bearish positioning despite rising prices. Historically, this combination of negative funding, rising open interest, and price stability has preceded upward breakouts, as short sellers are forced to cover.

Wall Street banking giant UBS forecasts further Fed rate cuts later this year. This comes as Fed Governor Stephen Miran claims the US-Iran war and tariffs will not have long-term impacts on inflation, but expects three rate cuts instead of four in 2026.
Bitcoin and gold will rise further if the Federal Reserve proceeds with more rate cuts this year. The broader crypto market will follow, with the S&P 500 hitting new highs.
The U.S. Federal Reserve would deliver 50 bps rate cuts later this year, UBS reported in the latest insights. Economists at the bank, including those in Global Wealth Management, project two 25 bps reductions potentially in September and December.

This would bring the federal funds rate to roughly 3.00-3.25% by 2026-end. The CME FedWatch Tool shows traders currently expect no rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year.

This forecast assumes Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s downplaying of monetary policy tightening and inflation remaining under control despite rising oil prices. US CPI and PPI inflation data showed readings coming in line or under with Wall Street estimates.

UBS expects Treasury yields to fall toward its year-end targets of 3.25% and 3.75% for 2-year and 10-year Treasuries, respectively.
If oil supply from the Strait of Hormuz starts to normalize, the bank giant sees treasury yields falling as investors scale back their expectations for rate hikes. However, if the disruption continues for a prolonged period, Fed rate cuts should drive yields lower.
