Jordi Visser, a 30-Year Analyst, Explains the Event That Could Trigger a “Super Cycle” in Bitcoin
Appearing as a guest on Anthony Pompliano’s podcast, Jordi Visser, founder of Visser Labs, offered a striking projection of the global economy and cryptocurrency markets.

According to Visser, the risk of contagion similar to the 2008 financial crisis is looming in the financial world, and this could create a “supercycle” that serves Bitcoin’s original purpose.

Visser stated that the private credit market, worth approximately $4 trillion, carries a greater systemic risk than commonly believed. Arguing that restrictions on traditional banking (such as Dodd-Frank) have caused debt to shift to “off-balance sheet” areas and opaque private markets, Visser said:
“We are in a K-type economy where lower income groups are struggling. We will see who is who when liquidity starts to be drawn from the private credit market. Financial stocks have already fallen below their 200-day moving averages; this is usually the beginning of bad things.”

Visser compared the current situation to the 1998 Russian crisis and the 2008 Great Financial Crisis. He noted that rising oil prices and inflationary pressures are putting central banks in a tight spot, and pointed out that historically, Bitcoin’s biggest surges have occurred immediately following financial shocks.

According to Visser, investors will turn to Bitcoin as they shy away from “illiquid” and “non-transparent” assets like private loans and real estate. While the “doors closing” in the private loan market traps investors, Bitcoin offers 24/7 liquidity and complete transparency through the blockchain.

Bitcoin rose over the weekend as escalating tensions in the Middle East pushed oil prices sharply higher, prompting investors to assess the potential spillover into global markets.

The world’s largest crypto traded at about $72,950 on Sunday, up roughly 2.5% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data.

The move came after a volatile weekend that saw Bitcoin briefly dip toward $70,500 before rebounding as traders digested the latest geopolitical developments.

With oil markets now focused on the risk of disruptions to energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz, traders across asset classes are watching closely for signs that the conflict could widen and spill into broader financial markets.

Crude oil jumped roughly 3% on Sunday night, climbing to around $100 a barrel, and marking its highest level since July 2022, as the conflict involving Iran entered its third week following U.S. strikes on military facilities on Kharg Island, a key hub for the country’s oil exports.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, President Donald Trump said U.S. Central Command had conducted “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East,” targeting military sites on the island.

Trump said the U.S. had deliberately avoided striking Iran’s oil infrastructure but warned that the decision could change if Iran interferes with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow corridor that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.

Kharg Island handles about 90% of Iran’s oil exports, making it one of the most strategically sensitive pieces of energy infrastructure in the region.

Bitcoin set for best week since September 2025 as correlation with tech stocks weakens

Bitcoin is on track to close its strongest week since September 2025, rising about 8.5% and trading above $71,000.

The move stands out relative to other major assets.

Over the past week, bitcoin has begun to diverge slightly from the broader market. Using BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) as a five-day proxy, IBIT is up roughly 3.5% and approached a one-month high on Friday.

In contrast, iShares Expanded Tech Software ETF (IGV), gold and U.S. equities all trended lower as the week progressed. This suggests bitcoin is starting to lose its strong correlation with software and tech, at least in the short term.

The divergence comes as bitcoin started to diverge from its traditional counterparts. Since the start of the conflict in the Middle East, over two weeks ago, bitcoin has gained roughly 13%, outperforming traditional risk assets and safe havens alike. Over the same period, IGV has risen about 3%, while gold has fallen around 6%, and U.S. equities have also posted losses.

On a monthly basis, the asset is up about 7% so far in March, which would mark its first positive month since September. That rebound follows five consecutive negative months in which bitcoin declined as much as 50% from its October all-time high.
