The conflict between Tron founder Justin Sun and Trump-backed World Liberty Financial, which has been marked by harsh exchanges in recent days, shows no signs of abating.

Lastly, US President Donald Trump and his family have submitted a new proposal regarding the unlocking and burning of their altcoin project, World Liberty Financial ($WLFI) tokens.

This proposal drew criticism from Justin Sun and other shareholders.

Tron founder Justin Sun harshly criticized the $WLFI’s new governance proposal, calling it a ridiculous scam and one of the “most absurd governance tricks” he had ever seen.

Sun claimed that the $WLFI governance voting structure was based on pressure and concentration of power, effectively a fraudulent system.

The proposal aims to impose a lock-up period of up to five years on over 62 billion tokens and to indefinitely freeze the assets of those who vote against it.

Sun alleged that the project’s team was attempting to monopolize power by using specific wallets to blacklist users.

Sun also pointed out that the system where tokens are permanently locked if an opposing vote is cast is problematic. This is because those who vote against the motion will have their tokens permanently locked.

Sun reacted by saying, “If you oppose this proposal, you will be punished. This is not a vote. This is coercion. What democratic process rewards compromise and punishes opposition?”

According to the announcement, this agreement marks Ripple’s first partnership with a South Korean insurance company. The project aims to tokenize government bond transactions using Ripple’s “Ripple Custody” platform.

This aims to reduce the T+2 settlement period, commonly used in traditional markets, to a near real-time level.

However, the parties stated that the project is still in its early stages and did not share any concrete information regarding the exact transaction volume, implementation schedule, or which bond types will be covered. The statements emphasized that the collaboration is primarily a pilot project aimed at testing technical and regulatory feasibility.

Kyobo Life also plans to explore stablecoin-based payment solutions in collaboration with Ripple. However, which stablecoin will be used or when the application will be launched has not yet been announced.

Experts point out that this development is part of the accelerating trend of corporate tokenization in Asia. The faster progress of countries like South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore in digital asset regulation, in particular, makes the region stand out in this field.

On April 15, bitcoin failed to recapture the momentum that saw it hit the $76,000 resistance level the previous day for the first time since mid-March. Market data shows the cryptocurrency spent much of the day oscillating between $74,000 and $74,800, although it fell to an intraday low of $73,617 around 3:44 a.m. EDT.

Shortly afterwards, bitcoin rallied but stalled at $74,400 before a sharp reversal nearly wiped out those gains. The same pattern repeated, with the price stalling again just after it surpassed the $74,000 threshold. At the time of writing (1 p.m. EDT), the top cryptocurrency was trading just under that mark, leaving its 24-hour gains at just below 2%. Its market capitalization dropped from a Tuesday peak of $1.52 trillion to $1.48 trillion.

Bitcoin’s price action contrasted with global stock indices, which were mostly flat, except for South Korea’s Kospi, which rose 123 points, or 2%. Reports of a possible fresh round of talks between the U.S. and Iran renewed investor optimism that the conflict between the countries might be resolved. Still, Iran’s threats to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea, in response to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, reminded investors that tensions could escalate.

South Korea to pilot blockchain-based deposit tokens for government spending

South Korea’s Ministry of Finance and Economy is launching a new pilot project to substitute government expense credit cards with deposit tokens.

The ministry expects to fully implement the pilot project in the fourth quarter of this year.

South Korea's Ministry of Finance and Economy is launching a new pilot project to test blockchain-based deposit tokens for expenses related to official duties.

Currently, government departments execute official business spending and other related expenses with government-issued credit or debit cards, according to the official press release. 

Card usage during late hours or on non-business days would require an extra administrative process where officials submit and review reports that justify the irregular spending.

The ministry said the experiment is expected to resolve inefficiencies in the existing card-based system, leveraging the transparency of blockchain technology.

"When processing expenses with deposit tokens, we can pre-set allowable usage times and permitted categories of spending, enhancing the overall transparency," the translated press release said, adding that the intermediary-free payment structure can reduce the burden of fees for small businesses.

The ministry said it will start selecting operators for the project and work closely with relevant agencies and businesses to finalize the scope of the experiment. It aims to launch a full implementation of the project in the fourth quarter of this year, centering around Sejong-si, the city planned as the administrative capital of the country.

If successful, the pilot may be expanded to other official businesses of the government, the ministry said.
