Blockchain.com adds perpetual futures trading to self-custody wallets

 

Blockchain.com has rolled out perpetual futures trading in its non-custodial DeFi wallet, allowing users to open leveraged positions directly from self-custodied Bitcoin used as collateral without transferring funds to an exchange.

According to Tuesday’s announcement, the feature is routed through decentralized derivatives exchange Hyperliquid and gives users access to more than 190 crypto markets with up to 40x leverage.

Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that allow traders to take leveraged positions on an asset’s price without an expiration date. Michael Selig, chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), said last month that the derivatives regulator plans to allow the contracts in the coming weeks.

Trades are executed while assets remain in the wallet, allowing users to open, manage and close positions without relinquishing control of private keys or relying on a custodial intermediary.

Blockchain.com said the product also allows accounts to be funded directly with Bitcoin (BTC) from the user’s wallet in a single transaction, avoiding conversions or transfers across platforms. The company said it expects to expand the offering with additional asset classes, including foreign exchange, stocks and commodities, in the near future.

Blockchain.com, launched in 2011 and based in Malta, is a crypto services platform offering wallets, trading and infrastructure tools for retail and institutional users.

Crypto Fear and Greed Index Moves Out of ‘Extreme Fear’ Zone! Here Are the Details

The recovery trend seen in the cryptocurrency market in the middle of the week was noteworthy. Leading digital assets, especially Bitcoin, rose due to strong inflows into exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and a decrease in geopolitical tensions.

According to the data, Bitcoin rose approximately 2.2% in the last 24 hours, climbing above the $78,000 level and trading at $78,015. Ethereum, meanwhile, increased by 2.7% during the same period, reaching $2,386. The overall cryptocurrency market saw an increase of approximately 2.3%.

In the dynamic blockchain sector, the Cardano network is being flagged as the most decentralized blockchain by several crypto analysts, with security being a major part of this assertion. However, the highly decentralized network has been called out for its lack of clear leadership.

Unclear Cardano Leadership Raises Concerns In The Ecosystem
Recently, a fresh debate has been raised around the Cardano network, particularly involving its leadership state. A crypto pundit and ADA enthusiast, Cardano Yoda, argues that the leading network is lacking clear leadership. Once again, the focus is on how Cardano strikes a compromise between decentralization and the requirement for unified leadership.

The pundit stated that in the past, the network was centered around the IOGs, the Cardano Foundation, and EMURGO, and its founder, Charles Hoskinson, was considered the leader. However, after the introduction of on-chain governance, the model evolved, breaking into two parts. These include DReps (governance decision-making) and Pentad (leadership and execution), which go hand-in-hand to produce a unified platform.

While DReps decide on Treasury spending, they also grant legitimacy to the strategy that Pentad offers because DReps are not coordinated. Since they cannot define the strategy and prioritize, on-chain governance is still dependent on the founding entities, indicating that the network remains strongly centralized in leadership and execution. These entities can offer their experience, knowledge, and expertise, but DReps will set the path from the ground up.
