A new Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, HKDAP (HKD At Par), is set to launch in Q2 2026, led by Anchorpoint Financial Technology — a joint venture backed by Standard Chartered, HKT, and Animoca Brands.
After securing a licence from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Anchorpoint will roll out one of the city’s first fully regulated fiat-backed stablecoins under Hong Kong’s new stablecoin framework.
What makes HKDAP stand out?
Each token will be fully backed 1:1 by Hong Kong dollar reserves, held in secure, segregated accounts — offering a level of transparency and trust designed to attract both institutions and, later, retail users.
Industry leaders see this as more than just another crypto token. According to Animoca executives, stablecoins like HKDAP are becoming the critical bridge between traditional finance and Web3, enabling everything from global trade to real-time, 24/7 payments.
Meanwhile, the broader regulatory momentum is growing beyond Asia. European institutions, including European Central Bank, are supporting stricter crypto oversight, signaling a global shift toward regulated digital assets.
