A new governance proposal would let validators redirect part of their staking income toward ecosystem funding, raising questions about coordination, incentives and who gets to decide where the money goes.thereum’s long-running funding debate has a new proposal: Make validators, who secure the world's leading smart contract blockchain, pay for more of the network’s shared costs.

The proposal on Ethereum's research forum introduced “validator redirected revenue,” a protocol-level mechanism that would let network operators to send part of their staking rewards to ecosystem funding. The redirect rate could range from 0% to 10% of staking rewards.

Validators would signal how much of their rewards they are willing to redirect. If a majority supports a rate above zero, the contribution would become mandatory for all validators.That is the proposal’s purported answer to Ethereum’s "free-rider" problem, in which many projects benefit from shared infrastructure, security work, research, tooling and public goods.

But no single actor wants to pay the full bill when everyone else can benefit for free. The result is underfunding unless the Ethereum Foundation, donors or a small group of motivated teams steps in.

Validators are entities that keep Ethereum running by locking up ether (ETH), checking transactions and earning staking rewards for doing so. Funding, in this context, means paying for the shared work Ethereum relies on, such as developer tools, security research, public infrastructure and other projects that help the network but do not always have a direct business model.

The proposal seeks to shift that burden toward validators, who earn ETH rewards for securing the network and benefit when Ethereum becomes more valuable.

The upgrade introduces B20, a new native token standard built directly into the node software rather than deployed as a smart contract. Base engineers describe B20 as a superset of the ERC-20 standard, meaning tokens built on it stay compatible with existing wallets, exchanges, and decentralized apps.

Tokens issued under B20 run as Rust precompiles. Network engineers say this approach lowers transaction costs, reduces the amount of data nodes need to store, and increases throughput compared to standard smart contract tokens.

Built-In Compliance Tools
Base built B20 with stablecoin issuers and tokenized asset platforms in mind. The standard ships with compliance tools, including role-based permissions, optional supply caps, and a policy registry that lets issuers set transfer rules for specific addressesIssuers can also freeze or seize tokens from blocked addresses through a function called burnBlocked, a feature aimed at companies operating under regulatory requirements.

“Beryl makes Base a first-class issuance platform with the B20 token standard, more capital efficient with a reduced withdrawal delay, and more scalable with Reth V2,” Conner Swenberg and Base Engineering Team said this week.

Two B20 token types are available at launch. Asset tokens support configurable decimals and rebasing. Stablecoin tokens use a fixed six decimals and a self-declared currency code.

Even so, volume remained relatively low at around $25 million. Liquidity also continued to weaken, with the liquidity-to-market-cap ratio sitting at 0.96%, according to CoinMarketCap. That decline came as selling pressure intensified across both Spot and derivatives markets.

Why is MYX facing heavy selling?
MYX’s decline this month appeared to coincide with large token transfers linked to a multisig wallet.

According to Arkham data, more than 17.96 million MYX tokens worth $2.46 million moved from a Gnosis Safe Proxy wallet to Bitget. Another wallet transferred 50 million MYX, worth $6.41 million.

On top of that, 12 million MYX tokens worth over $1.5 million moved from a Bitget cold wallet to a hot wallet. While these transfers do not confirm selling, they typically increase the likelihood of tokens entering circulation.

Taken together, roughly 80 million MYX tokens worth about $10.4 million became available for potential distribution.The market appeared unable to absorb that supply, adding pressure to price action.

In fact, long liquidations surged over the past 12 hours. More than $230,000 in long positions were liquidated, compared to just $7,400 in shorts. That suggested leveraged bulls were caught on the wrong side of the move.

On top of that, Open Interest dropped sharply from above $3 million to roughly $2 million. Holder revenue also fell to zero, signaling weaker protocol activity.

Midnight City becomes test ground for agents

Midnight City is an interactive simulation tied to the Midnight Network. It uses autonomous AI agents that work, trade and create economic activity inside a digital city. The project lets users watch activity through different views, including public, auditor and regulatory lenses.

The platform also serves as a testing area for privacy tools. Midnight Network uses zero-knowledge technology and selective disclosure to protect data while still allowing approved parties to see needed information. This design supports the project’s wider pitch around private but compliant blockchain activity.

Marketing plans move toward AI agents

Hoskinson said Cardano and Midnight cannot rely only on human teams if the user base grows by millions.

“We’re going to need agents and AI to be able to organize and sort all that out and broadcast on a regular basis what’s going on in Midnight City,” he said.

He also linked the discussion to OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent platform. Hoskinson described AI agents as tools that could support community management, media updates and broadcasting. He
