Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin holder, caused a major stir in the cryptocurrency markets with its recent Bitcoin sale.

The company’s decision to sell only 32 Bitcoin (worth approximately $2.5 million) has raised questions among investors about whether the company’s strategy is faltering. Speaking on the matter, Strategy CEO Phong Le shared the background to the decision and the company’s long-term plans.

Phong Le argued that, contrary to market speculation, there was no financial necessity or panic behind this sale. Describing the move as “injecting the market,” Le stated:

“Our debtors and bondholders, as well as credit rating agencies, wanted to see if we could convert our largest corporate asset, Bitcoin, into cash if needed. We conducted this sale to show people that we can sell Bitcoin when necessary. We also wanted to test the processes of moving and selling our assets from cold wallets to hot wallets and gauge how the market would react.”

Le reminded that the company publishes its weekly activity report (8-K) in accordance with its principle of transparency, and stated that in the week following this small sale of $2.5 million, they purchased $100 million worth of Bitcoin, and in the previous week, they purchased $1.5 billion worth, emphasizing that there has been no change in the company’s long-term accumulation strategy.

Responding to questions within the crypto community about whether decisions are made by a single leader, Le stated that as a publicly traded company listed on NASDAQ, they have a very strict corporate governance scheme. He explained that decisions are filtered through a joint decision-making process involving Michael Saylor, himself, eight board members, and shareholders, and that they utilize daily simulations and advanced data analytics models. Le said,

CME lawsuit challenges whether Kalshi’s Bitcoin leverage push can become an everything-exchange

CME’s lawsuit against the CFTC over Kalshi’s Bitcoin perps shows how the fight over crypto derivatives is turning into a broader battle over who gets to build the next everything-exchange.

CME says it will sue the CFTC, arguing Kalshi’s Bitcoin perpetual contract was wrongly approved as a futures product.

02Kalshi has already topped $5 billion in perp volume, and CME, Cboe, and ICE fell as investors saw a threat.

03The case will test whether courts and regulators let Bitcoin perps, event contracts, and state gaming rules keep converging.
The CFTC approved KalshiEX's BTCPERP contract on May 29, one day after Kalshi submitted it under Regulation 40.3.

The contract references spot Bitcoin, carries no expiry date, and perps generally allow leverage as high as 50-to-1, with automatic liquidation that can wipe out positions during sharp moves.

CME CEO Terry Duffy announced the company would sue the CFTC, arguing the regulator misclassified the product. As The Wall Street Journal reported, CME's complaint holds that Kalshi's perps should have been classified as swaps, which would have subjected them to stricter Dodd-Frank rules.

Kalshi has already recorded over $5 billion in perp volume since launch, with shares of CME, Cboe, and ICE falling on the approval, as investors read the CFTC's decision as a long-term competitive threat to incumbent exchanges.

That market reaction reveals why CME's objection rests as much on competitive logic as on consumer protection. Kalshi started as a platform where users trade event contracts, such as on Fed rate-cut odds or who will win the election.

Adding regulated Bitcoin perps pulls Kalshi toward the same retail derivatives screen that CME has spent decades building.
