So if you had money to put to work, which one would have rewarded you more?Bitcoin's decline isn't a knock on the asset's long-term thesis — it's a reminder of its volatility. The past 12 months saw $BTC hit an all-time high near $126,000 in late 2025 before a sharp retracement, dragged lower by tightening macro conditions, ETF outflows, and a months-long geopolitical conflict that crushed risk appetite. At ~$65,200, Bitcoin sits well off both its highs and its year-ago level.

The key nuance: your Bitcoin return depends enormously on when you bought. A buyer from two years ago is still comfortably in profit; the year-ago buyer who caught the top is not. That timing sensitivity is the whole story with a volatile asset.
