Bitcoin climbed back above $82,000 on Monday before reversing lower. The trigger was four words from President Trump posted on social media: “I don’t like it.” Within minutes of the post, Bitcoin dropped nearly $1,200 from around $81,500 to $80,300.

The move triggered immediate liquidations across the crypto market and set off one of the most volatile 12-hour periods Bitcoin has seen. Roughly $81 million worth of long positions were liquidated within the first hour of the drop. Bitcoin then rebounded toward $82,400 after US futures markets opened, before reversing lower again.

Solana whale takes a $7.5M bet

During this period of prolonged market weakness, SOL whales have remained extremely calm, further stretching the market. 

However, large market participants have begun to return, especially in the derivatives market. Futures Taker CVD data from CryptoQuant has remained positive this week, suggesting a comeback by buyers in futures. 

It seems those returning to the market are whales. Onchain Lens reported that a whale opened a 78,000 SOL long position with 3x leverage, valued at $7.5 million. This whale’s position has a liquidation price of $36.05. With SOL retracing, the whale’s position is already down $114K. The decision to go long reflects growing optimism, as the trader expects prices to rise further.

This whale is not alone, as derivatives market participation has also surged, with volume up 111% to $14.5 billion and Open Interest (OI) edging higher to $6.3 billion.

According to the statement, an initial 0.5% of the ASTEROID token supply was donated to an institutional $ETH wallet. Due to the lack of a direct fiat currency conversion infrastructure at the time, the assets were held long-term. Later, with the rise in the ASTEROID price, the value of the position fluctuated between $500,000 and $1 million.
