A 46.3 million ounce silver shortfall is keeping pressure on a market that was already tight before 2026 got going, according to the World Silver Survey 2026 released on Wednesday.
Reportedly, global demand stayed above supply for the fifth year in a row in 2025, the deficit smaller than it was in 2024, but it still put more stress on above-ground stocks.

The 88-page report was released by the Silver Institute and researched and produced by Metals Focus, the London-based precious metals consultancy. Its numbers show that total silver demand slipped 2% last year to 1.13 billion ounces, but that top-line figure does not mean the market loosened up.
A strong rise in investment demand helped keep the market under pressure even as some other segments weakened. Coin and net bar demand rose 14%, which nearly canceled out declines elsewhere.
Industrial use lost steam as investors bought more silver and regional demand split sharply
Industrial silver demand fell 3% to 657.4 million ounces in 2025 after four straight years of strong growth. Electrical and electronics demand dropped 2%, but the market still got support from spending tied to AI infrastructure, solid automotive use, and healthy power grid investment.

The CLARITY Act breakthrough: Why JPMorgan says the U.S. crypto rulebook is ‘close to completion’

Momentum is building in Washington for the long-awaited CLARITY Act, with JPMorgan (JPM) pointing to signs that negotiations may be nearing a breakthrough.

JPMorgan said discussions among lawmakers and regulators suggest the legislation is close to completion, with only a small number of issues still unresolved in a Wednesday report.

One senior policy official noted that the list of contentious items has narrowed from roughly a dozen to just “2–3 issues,” while debate around stablecoin rewards is now “in a good place.”

The CLARITY Act is designed to define how digital assets are regulated in the U.S., including how oversight is divided between agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). It also addresses how stablecoins and decentralized finance platforms should be treated under existing financial rules.

Lawmakers involved in the discussions struck an optimistic tone. A Senate staffer familiar with the process said the draft legislation is “very close,” with remaining questions around areas like DeFi oversight and token classification potentially resolved in the near term, according to the report.

One of the most closely watched debates centers on whether stablecoin issuers should be allowed to offer yield-like rewards to users. The issue has drawn pushback from banks, which argue such features could replicate deposit-taking without the same regulatory safeguards.

The latest proposals could find support from both crypto firms and traditional financial institutions, according to JPMorgan.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said there’s a “tremendous opportunity” for a yuan-pegged stablecoin, and China could launch one within the next three to five years.

Chinese authorities have explicitly banned the offshore issuance of yuan stablecoins without regulatory approval.


Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said he sees a "tremendous opportunity" for a Chinese yuan stablecoin, particularly if Chinese authorities aim to make the yuan more competitive.

In a Thursday interview with Reuters, Allaire said that stablecoins have emerged as a new way for currencies to gain global traction, potentially supporting China's long-term goal of internationalizing the yuan.

"There's a tremendous opportunity for a yuan stablecoin," Allaire told Reuters. "If there's currency competition, you want your currency to have the best features possible. This is becoming a technological competition."

Allaire added that China could launch a yuan-backed stablecoin within the next three to five years. The Block has reached out to Circle for further comment. 

Allaire's remarks come amid growing chatter about a potential yuan stablecoin. In July 2025, Chinese tech giants Ant Group and JD reportedly urged China's central bank to authorize yuan-backed stablecoins in addition to those pegged to the Hong Kong dollar.

However, Chinese authorities have taken a cautious stance. In February 2026, the People's Bank of China and a group of key regulators issued a notice explicitly prohibiting the offshore issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins without prior regulatory approval.
