Japan could experience another wave of widespread price increases this summer as companies respond to surging energy costs linked to tensions in the Middle East, according to a Bank of Japan (BOJ) report released Friday. Businesses across multiple sectors, including food manufacturers, restaurants, and hot spring resorts, are considering or already planning price hikes to offset rising operational expenses.The BOJ’s regional survey, conducted between January and April, showed that many Japanese firms are becoming more willing to pass higher raw material, labor, and fuel costs on to consumers. This marks a continued shift away from Japan’s long-standing culture of maintaining low prices, particularly in the service sector.The report noted that escalating energy prices tied to the Middle East conflict are pushing companies to revise their fiscal year business plans, which began in April. Some businesses have already decided to implement faster and broader price increases, while others are expected to finalize decisions during the summer months.Japan’s inflation pressure has intensified in recent months. Annual wholesale inflation climbed to 4.9% in April, the highest level in three years, driven largely by higher petroleum and chemical product costs. JPMorgan Chase has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to create a blockchain-based money market fund, designed in part for stablecoin issuers. According to the filing, the fund will utilize blockchain infrastructure developed by Kinexys Digital Assets (KDA), a division of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. The filing states that the fund "utilizes blockchain technology to enable investors to submit transaction instructions" for fund shares via the blockchain system. The filing states that the blockchain platform is "developed, deployed, and maintained" by KDA and functions as a permissioned system overlaid on public blockchains. JPMorgan stated that the system incorporates "policies, procedures, and technological controls" designed to ensure that transactions remain under the fund's "full and comprehensive control and oversight."

What Is the XRP Domino Theory? Analyst Explains How XRP Could Benefit From a Crisis

Crypto analyst Jake Claver is again making bold predictions around $XRP through what he calls the “Domino Theory.” In his latest video, Claver explained how a chain reaction involving oil prices, Japan, stablecoins, banks, and crypto markets could eventually trigger a major liquidity crisis, with $XRP potentially becoming one of the biggest beneficiaries.

Domino 1: Oil Shock and Global Tension

According to Claver, the first domino starts with rising geopolitical tension involving Iran, Russia, China, and the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that any disruption to oil supply could push energy prices sharply higher and create fresh inflation pressure across global markets.

Japan is one of the biggest concerns in this scenario because it relies heavily on imported energy.

Domino 2: Japan’s Carry Trade Unwinds

Claver explained that investors have borrowed cheap Japanese yen for decades and invested that money into assets like stocks, bonds, Bitcoin, gold, and crypto.

If inflation forces the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates aggressively, those trades may quickly unwind. That would pull liquidity out of global markets and trigger heavy selling pressure across risk assets.

Whale-to-retail ratio hits a 9-month high



The Bitcoin [BTC] whale-to-retail ratio has recorded a major spike, reaching its highest level in nine months, according to the latest data from Alphractal.

This metric measures Bitcoin whale flow relative to retail flow, and the recent spike signals a significant uptick in whale activity compared to their retail counterparts.



Notably, historical data shows that each time this ratio has reached comparable levels, it has preceded a broader bullish move averaging 30% within a 90-day window.

If that pattern holds, Bitcoin would advance to roughly $104,000, a level last seen on the 13th of November, 2025.

Investors and traders are paying closer attention to Bitcoin (BTC) after the latest US inflation report was released on May 12. As consumer prices in the US continue to climb, questions are mounting about what that means for BTC and whether the world’s largest cryptocurrency can hold its ground. This change also creates a new and challenging environment for the broader crypto market, especially as Bitcoin’s price action often responds sharply to shifting macroeconomic conditions.

Bitcoin Holds Ground Amid Rising US Inflation
Data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.8% annually this April. This measurement marks the highest inflation level since May 2023. 

Typically, rising inflation forces the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates high. This higher rate makes risk assets like Bitcoin less attractive compared to safer yields from bonds. However, despite the surge in inflation, the price of Bitcoin only dipped about 1-1.5% to around $80,500 before stabilizing at the $81,000 range. The cryptocurrency’s 24-hour price change also remained relatively flat at 0.1%.

The inflation increase came from an energy price shock linked to the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran. This caused monthly inflation to rise by 0.6%, which matched what many economists predicted. The annual numbers also overshot the initial 3.7% market forecasts. Notably, before the military strikes on Iran in late February, the annual inflation rate was much lower, at 2.4%.

In response, the 10-year US Treasury yield climbed more than 4 basis points to 4.459%. Meanwhile, US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw a combined daily outflow of over $233 million on May 12, showing that investors are moving away from BTC.
