Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Raises Bitcoin ETF Stake 16% to $566 Million in Q1 2026

Mubadala Investment Company boosted its stake in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust by 16% in Q1 2026.

Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company has raised its position in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), reporting ownership of 14,721,917 shares valued at $565,616,051 as of March 31, 2026, according to a 13F filing released today. 

That marks a 16% increase from the 12,702,323 shares the fund held at the end of Q4 2025.

The disclosure extends a now-unbroken accumulation streak that began in Q4 2024, when Mubadala first disclosed bitcoin exposure worth at least $436 million. The fund added shares through a Q1 2025 filing that showed 8,726,972 shares at $408.5 million, then surged to 12.7 million shares worth $630.6 million by December 31, 2025 — a 46% jump in a single quarter. Today’s filing adds another 2 million shares to that ledger, pushing the position past the half-billion dollar mark for the third straight quarter.

Mubadala manages a global portfolio exceeding $330 billion in assets across technology, healthcare, infrastructure, private equity, and public markets, with its mandate centered on generating returns for the Abu Dhabi government while reducing the emirate’s dependence on oil revenues. Bitcoin, accessed through the regulated IBIT structure, has become one of the fund’s most visible public market positions. 

As of Q4 2024, IBIT was already Mubadala’s second-largest holding by a wide margin, trailing only a longer-term stake in Arm Holdings.

Buyers have successfully defended the major $1.38–$1.40 support area in recent sessions, helping XRP maintain a relatively stable bullish structure despite ongoing market volatility.

The latest price action reflects growing tension between buyers and sellers as traders closely watch whether XRP can generate enough momentum to break above nearby resistance levels and continue its broader recovery trend.

XRP has gradually shifted into a stronger recovery structure after reclaiming important support zones earlier in May. The market continues forming higher lows on lower timeframes, suggesting buyers remain active during pullbacks.

Recent consolidation near the $1.45–$1.50 region reflects a compression phase where volatility has started tightening. Historically, this type of structure often leads to stronger directional movement once breakout momentum appears.

Selling pressure has also weakened compared to previous corrections, while dip-buying activity continues supporting the market above key levels.

In the medium term, XRP remains inside a broader stabilization and recovery phase after significant correction pressure earlier in 2026. The breakout above $1.40 improved overall market structure and shifted short-term sentiment back toward cautious optimism.

Momentum currently remains neutral-to-bullish while XRP holds above support zones, although stronger continuation above resistance is still required before a larger breakout trend becomes fully confirmed.

Two major US exchange powerhouses are moving against a top decentralized trading venue. According to Bloomberg,  York Stock Exchange, are urging US authorities to regulate Hyperliquid amid concerns that its largely offshore, lightly regulated trading environment could be vulnerable to market manipulation and sanctions evasion.
Hyperliquid’s native HYPE token slipped approximately 6% in reaction to the development, moving from above $45 to below $43, per CoinGecko. It has a market cap of around $10.3 billion, making it the 13th-largest crypto asset globally.
The exchanges argue that Hyperliquid’s growing trading volumes in crypto and commodity-linked markets could begin to distort price discovery in critical sectors like oil, where global benchmarks are formed. They warn that anonymous trading environments may allow insiders or state-linked participants to influence prices.

The push, which includes calls for registration with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, comes as CME advances plans to expand its own 24/7 crypto trading offerings.

CME has been steadily expanding its own crypto derivatives offerings. Bitcoin Volatility Futures contracts are scheduled to begin trading June 1, and Nasdaq CME Crypto Index Futures, a multi-asset product spanning BTC, ETH, XRP, and others, launch a week later on June 8.

Both products are designed to give institutional traders regulated alternatives to the kind of leveraged trading that Hyperliquid offers with less friction and less compliance overhead.

Trump’s tariffs just got a judicial lifeline. A federal appeals court has temporarily blocked a lower-court order that declared the president’s new tariffs unlawful, meaning the levies stay in effect while the appellate court decides whether to extend that pause even further.

What happened and why it matters

A lower court issued an order declaring Trump’s new tariffs unlawful. That order, if left standing, would have effectively neutralized the tariffs and forced the government to stop collecting them.

The appeals court stepped in and hit pause. The tariffs remain active while the appellate judges take their time deciding whether to grant a longer, more formal stay.

Legal challenges to presidential tariff authority aren’t new, but they have intensified. The core question in many of these cases is whether the president has the statutory authority to impose tariffs unilaterally, or whether that power belongs to Congress. The Constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to regulate commerce with foreign nations, but over the decades, Congress has delegated significant trade authority to the executive branch through various statutes.

The lower court’s decision to declare the tariffs unlawful signals that at least one judge believes the administration overstepped those delegated powers.

Inside a packed Senate hearing room on May 14, the air was heavy with the tension of a high-stakes jurisdictional brawl on the CLARITY Act.

What was intended to be a routine legislative markup became a grueling “tick-tock” of procedural maneuvering, personal barbs, and a desperate search for a bipartisan middle ground.

Ultimately, the bill cleared the Senate Banking Committee in a 15-9 vote after a gauntlet of last-minute objections.

However, the path to that victory was defined by a series of sharp clashes between pro-crypto Republicans and a Democratic wing led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, who challenged the hearing’s “good governance” framing within the first hour.

The morning began with Chairman Tim Scott attempting to set a tone of orderly progress.

Opening the hearing, Scott framed the CLARITY Act as a common-sense modernization of “outdated rules” that would prevent American innovation from fleeing to overseas markets.

Scott said:

“Safeguarding our national security means closing the doors that criminals, terrorists and hostile regimes have tried to exploit. This bill strengthens anti-money laundering and sanctions rules and gives law enforcement better tools to go after bad actions. None of this happened overnight.”

HYPE rallied after Coinbase and Circle committed to Hyperliquid’s AQAv2 upgrade, bringing USDC’s liquidity together with the protocol-aligned yield model pioneered by USDH.
Coinbase and Circle's commitment to Hyperliquid's AQAv2 upgrade sent HYPE up to roughly $45 on May 14, a deal that makes USDC the platform's aligned quote asset and directs the vast majority of reserve-yield revenue back to the protocol.

The rally reflected traders reading the announcement as institutional validation of the protocol-aligned stablecoin model pioneered by Native Markets' USDH on Hyperliquid.

Under AQAv2, Coinbase becomes the official USDC treasury deployer on Hyperliquid. Circle handles the technical deployment and cross-chain infrastructure, including CCTP, the protocol that enables USDC to move natively between chains via a burn-and-mint mechanism.

Native Markets separately granted Coinbase the right to purchase USDH brand assets, while Native Markets stays independent as an organization.

USDH stays fully backed through the transition, with markets sunsetting over time and feeless conversion and fiat redemption paths available to users.
