StarkWare cuts jobs in reorganization as Starknet revenue plunges 99% from peak

StarkWare is restructuring into two business units and cutting staff as it pivots from scaling Ethereum toward building revenue-generating products of its own — a shift forced by a more than 99% collapse in revenue on its flagship Starknet network.

The changes were outlined during a company-wide town hall hosted by CEO Eli Ben-Sasson, where he told employees StarkWare would restructure into two independent units and focus on building revenue-generating products in-house. A transcript of the address to staff was reviewed by CoinDesk.

Starknet chain revenue, which peaked near $6 million in a single month in late 2023, stood at roughly $48,000 through the first half of April 2026, according to DefiLlama data. The decline is partly industry-wide, with Starknet's competitors equally impacted, as Ethereum's EIP-4844 upgrade in March 2024 slashed Layer 2 fee revenue across the board.

Total Value Locked (TVL), however, remains above $200 million.

Ben-Sasson told employees the company now needs to "take our technological superiority… and convert it into meaningful revenue, meaningful usage," signaling a shift away from a pure infrastructure focus toward building products that can drive demand directly.

He added that StarkWare would prioritize building "things that can be done by no other team, in no other way," focusing resources on products with "immense potential revenue" rather than broad experimentation.

"I started in this field in 2013, almost 13 years ago, and I've seen quite a number of winters," Ben-Sasson said at the town hall. "I think what marks this winter is that there's a very clear vacuum in leadership across blockchain, and it affects even things like Bitcoin and Ethereum."

The company will spin up a new revenue-focused Applications unit led by researcher Avihu Levy.

Banks rate Strategy a ‘buy’ while collecting $274M to issue stock for its Bitcoin purchases

Strategy is one of the most aggressively promoted stocks on Wall Street, with a consensus “Strong Buy” rating and an average analyst price target that implies a 155% upside from recent prices.

That's nearly double the implied upside for any other large-cap name in America. It's also, by a wide margin, the single largest issuer of new stock on any US exchange, having raised an estimated $50 billion in roughly 18 months and paid around $274 million in fees along the way.

But the companies setting and publishing those bullish targets, and the companies profiting from that issuance pipeline overlap so much that it threatens to turn into a very serious conflict of interest.

The question we have to ask isn't whether anyone is breaking the law, because nobody is, at least for now. It's whether the incentive structure around Strategy has become so tightly wound that Wall Street's enthusiasm and Wall Street's compensation have merged into a single, very bullish, but unjustified emotion.

World Liberty Financial has repaid a total of $25 million in USDS over the past two days, even as its token continues to decline amid ongoing scrutiny of its lending strategies.

The project confirmed in a post on X that it repaid $15 million two days ago, followed by another $10 million today.

Repayments Follow Lending and Liquidity Controversy
The move comes after WLFI faced growing criticism over its activities on its own lending platform, where the company is one of the largest borrowers.

The project reportedly deposited billions of WLFI tokens as collateral and borrowed over $75 million in stablecoins. This move boosted lending yields but also exacerbated liquidity pressures.

This situation has raised concerns among users unable to withdraw funds, with analysts warning that if positions are mismanaged, it could lead to bad debt and broader contagion risks.

WLFI has dismissed these concerns, stating that it is “far from meeting liquidation thresholds” and can add collateral if necessary.

Despite Repayments, Price Continues to Weaken
Despite the repayments, WLFI’s market performance suggests that investor confidence has not yet recovered.

The token is trading near $0.08, down more than 7%, continuing a broader downtrend characterized by lower highs and persistent selling pressure.

Momentum indicators show weakness. The Relative Strength Index [RSI] has fallen to around 25, placing the asset in a deeply oversold territory. While this may signal potential for a short-term rebound, it also reflects the intensity of the recent sell-off.

Notably, WLFI’s decline is occurring even as the broader crypto market shows signs of stabilization, highlighting a divergence between sentiment toward the token and the broader market.
