The S&P 500 hitting another all-time high just exposed Bitcoin’s real problem

Bitcoin’s drop below $80,000 came as the S&P 500 registered record highs. If BTC is a high-beta risk asset, why is it missing the stock-market rally?

Traders have been treating Bitcoin as a high-beta proxy for the same risk appetite driving Nvidia and the Mag-7, one that should move with equities on green days.

Instead, Bitcoin lost its $80,000 support and registered an intraday low of $78,759.70 on May 13, while the S&P 500 registered a new all-time high, QQQ rose 1.06%, and Nvidia added 2.84%.

This equity rally runs on earnings revisions, AI revenue, and buybacks, all of which bid up cash-flow assets and bypass liquidity ones.

The May 13 equity session was driven by strength in megacaps. Seven of eleven S&P 500 sectors closed lower, the Dow fell, and declining stocks outnumbered advancers on both the NYSE and Nasdaq, even as the index itself rose.

On the London Metal Exchange, the red metal surged for an eighth session to reach $14,196.50 per ton, which was near an all-time high of $14,527.50 in January.

Poland’s lower house of parliament just passed a government-backed bill to bring the country’s crypto market under EU regulation. The vote was 241 to 200, and it happened on the third try, because the first two attempts were killed by presidential vetoes.

The legislation, known as the Crypto-Asset Market Act, would implement the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) framework in Poland. It designates the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, known as the KNF, as the primary watchdog over digital-asset activities in the country.
