Bitcoin bulls are eyeing $100,000, yet the futures market hints at another dip first

ETF inflows are picking up and a new Morgan Stanley product is turning heads, but on chain and futures positioning still look uneasy.

Bitcoin traders are rebuilding bets on a move toward $80,000 as easing geopolitical tensions, firmer institutional demand, and a rebound above $70,000 revive appetite for upside exposure after weeks of defensive positioning.

On Coinbase-owned Deribit, the largest venue for crypto options, the $80,000 call has become the single biggest strike by open interest this week, with around $1.5 billion tied up in contracts that pay off if Bitcoin rises above that level.
This is also evident on the on-chain options platform, Derive, where open interest at the $85,000 strike has climbed to about $60 million, while $100,000 calls stand near $45 million.

The shift marks a notable change in tone after a stretch in which traders spent much of their energy buying protection against another leg lower.

However, Bitcoin has since recovered from early-week lows near $67,000, trading above $70,000, helped by a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran that eased pressure on oil and steadied broader risk sentiment.

Nonetheless, the market has not fully let its guard down, as downside protection remains bid across longer maturities, and parts of the futures market continue to lean defensive.

On April 8th, the US and Iran called for an "immediate ceasefire," triggering significant volatility in the cryptocurrency market.

A similar trend emerged in the ETF market, although altcoin performance was mixed, reflecting the varying sentiment among institutional investors over the past week.

Starting last week, spot Bitcoin [BTC] ETFs saw inflows of $471.4 million, with BlackRock's IBIT receiving the largest inflow at $181.9 million, followed by Fidelity's FBTC with $147.3 million.

Ark Invest's ARKB also received $118.8 million in inflows, while Grayscale received $17.6 million. Meanwhile, other funds saw negligible or zero inflows.

Bitwise updates Hyperliquid ETF filing as race for first spot fund builds

Bitwise Asset Management has taken another step in its effort to launch a spot Hyperliquid exchange-traded fund in the United States.

Bitwise added a ticker and fee to its Hyperliquid ETF filing with the SEC.

Eric Balchunas said the latest filing details suggest the fund could launch soon.

Hyperliquid posted strong token gains and rising derivatives volume during the first quarter.

The firm filed a second amendment with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, adding new details to its proposed product as competition in the category continues to grow.

The updated filing included the ticker BHYP and a management fee of 0.67%. Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said those additions often suggest a product may be getting closer to market, while other issuers continue to pursue similar funds tied to Hyperliquid.

Even after the ceasefire was announced on April 8th, the outflows continued, with total outflows from Bitcoin ETFs reaching $93.9 million. On that day, Fidelity's FBTC, Ark Invest's ARKB, and Grayscale's GBTC saw outflows of $79.1 million, $74.7 million, and $11.1 million, respectively.

All other ETFs saw inflows, with IBIT leading the way with $40.4 million in inflows. It's worth noting that the situation changed on April 9th ​​and 10th, with Bitcoin ETFs receiving inflows of $358.1 million and $240.2 million respectively. IBIT saw the highest inflows on both days, at $269.3 million and $137.6 million. Meanwhile, Grayscale's GBTC saw no inflows on either day.

The crypto sector's new Fellowship political action committee disclosed its first contribution ahead of the 2026 congressional midterm elections, and the $300,000 it spent went to a company co-founded by President Donald Trump's former crypto adviser, Bo Hines — now chief executive of Tether US.

The Fellowship super PAC had advertised itself as a crypto campaign-finance juggernaut last year but hadn't yet participated in the U.S. midterm elections until a new federal disclosure indicated it's signed its first check. From the time the PAC was announced, the effort was reportedly tied to Tether, though the company declined to confirm the connection. On April 1, the PAC named Tether US executive Jesse Spiro as its chairman.

Days later, Fellowship quietly made its first expense filing to the Federal Election Commission, reporting that it bought advertising for Georgia Republican Clay Fuller through Nxum Group — a firm co-founded by Hines, father Todd Hines and a third partner. The PAC, which says it's "rooted in transparency," hasn't responded to CoinDesk questions about its formation and funding, nor about the payment that may benefit the Tether US CEO and his relative.

Setting up a super PAC and paying yourself for services isn't against U.S. campaign-finance rules, as long as the service is provided at appropriate market value, said Michael Beckel at political reform organization Issue One.

"There is no blanket prohibition on self-dealing when we're talking about political committees like this," he said in an interview. "The general rule is that services need to be rendered that are bonafide services — actual services — and those rates that are paid have to be fair-market rates."
