Bitcoin registered an intraday high of $80,717.66 on May 4, putting its macro identity to the test of being a hedge against monetary disorder or a liquidity-sensitive asset that struggles when yields rise, and cash becomes more attractive.

When the 10-year approaches 4.5%, mortgage rates, equity valuations, and corporate borrowing all tighten with it. Freddie Mac put the 30-year fixed mortgage at 6.30% as of Apr. 30, already up from 6.23% the week before.

When war-driven yield moves pushed the 10-year to 4.39% in late March, that mortgage rate jumped to 6.38% and climbed to 6.46% as escalation fears intensified in early April.

A poll of strategists had a median 12-month forecast for the 10-year yield of roughly 4.26%, and the market is already trading about 20 basis points above that level.

About 20% of global oil and LNG supply moves through the Strait of Hormuz, which is why the market reaction spread immediately from crude into rates.

Eurasia Group warned that without a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, US gasoline could reach $5 a gallon, while AAA's national average stood at $4.457 on May 4. Both numbers frame the inflation risk that feeds into rate expectations and complicates the Fed's position.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies, the world’s largest known Ethereum treasury company, acquired an additional 101,745 ETH last week for over $240 million, pushing total holdings to 5.18 million tokens — as Chairman Thomas “Tom” Lee declared that a new crypto cycle has quietly begun.

The latest purchase, which included 10,000 ETH acquired directly from the Ethereum Foundation in an over-the-counter transaction at an average price of $2,292 per token, brings Bitmine’s cumulative ETH position to 5,180,131 tokens — equivalent to approximately 4.29% of Ethereum’s total circulating supply of 120.7 million coins, according to the company’s official press release via PR Newswire. The firm is now 86% of the way toward what it calls the “Alchemy of 5%” — its stated goal of controlling 5% of all ETH in existence.

Lee Calls The Cycle Turn
In the company’s May 4 update, Lee framed the moment with conviction. “Crypto Spring, in our view, has commenced,” he stated in the release, “and like past cycles, investor sentiment and conviction are muted and bearish even as crypto prices strengthen.” The declaration echoes a pattern seen in prior bull runs — where macro skepticism and subdued retail sentiment coincide with a structural turn in institutional positioning.

Lee pointed to two long-term drivers underpinning his bullish thesis on Ethereum specifically. The first is the accelerating trend of Wall Street institutions tokenizing financial assets on blockchain rails. The second is the rise of agentic AI systems that, in his view, will increasingly require public and neutral blockchains for payments and verification — a use case Lee believes positions Ethereum as the default infrastructure layer.

Dutch users still access prediction markets despite Polymarket banDutch users can still access crypto prediction markets despite a previous ban on market leader Polymarket.

Polymarket was banned by the Dutch Gaming Authority (Ksa) in February for operating without a gambling license. However, US-based Kalshi, crypto exchange Hyperliquid and investment giant Interactive Brokers are still offering prediction markets to Dutch users, according to an investigation by Dutch financial newspaper FD.

The Ksa warned that Polymarket’s ban applies to similar platforms. “Websites similar to Polymarket also fall under our supervision and can therefore be sanctioned by us,” a spokesperson reportedly said.

Kalshi appears to be actively targeting the Dutch market, the report said, adding that users can bet on Dutch Eredivisie football matches and previously had the option to speculate on Dutch elections. Hyperliquid, which operates as a decentralized blockchain platform, also recently expanded its prediction market offering to the Netherlands.

Arkham flags Multicoin-associated $HYPE staking activity
According to market monitors citing Arkham’s AI attribution engine, an address predicted to be associated with Multicoin Capital transferred approximately $28.45 million worth of $HYPE to the HyperCore staking contract and locked it, marking a fresh wave of on-chain positioning in the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

At roughly the same time, two other addresses performed the same operation, and together the three wallets staked 1.96 million $HYPE tokens, valued at about $82.02 million at prevailing prices, based on figures reported by Coinness and Phemex.

Post‑transaction snapshots show that even after this move, the group of wallets continues to hold around 2.83 million $HYPE in total, worth an estimated $118 million, suggesting that staking represents a shift in how the position is deployed rather than an unwind.

Strive’s (ASST) Bitcoin Treasury Crosses 15,000 BTC After $33.9 Million Purchase

Strive, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASST) said Monday its Bitcoin treasury has topped 15,000 BTC after it acquired 444 bitcoin for $33.9 million at an average price of $76,307 per coin.

Dallas-based Strive, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASST) disclosed Monday that its Bitcoin treasury has crossed the 15,000 BTC threshold, following the purchase of 444 bitcoin for $33.9 million at an average cost of $76,307 per coin. 

CEO Matt Cole announced the acquisition on X, and the company filed an 8-K with the SEC confirming the details.

The purchase extends a string of accumulation moves that have positioned Strive as one of the more active corporate Bitcoin buyers in the market. 

As of April 24, Strive held 14,557 BTC after a separate purchase of 789 bitcoin at $77,890 per coin. The latest transaction pushes the total stack past 15,000 BTC, a holding valued at around $1.2 billion at current prices.

The SEC filing detailed the company’s balance sheet as of May 1: $97.9 million in cash and cash equivalents, and $50.4 million in the Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) of Strategy — Michael Saylor’s firm, which rebranded from MicroStrategy. 

Strive reported 63,129,587 shares of Class A common stock and 9,893,844 shares of Class B common stock outstanding, together with 4,959,536 shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Preferred Stock, traded under the ticker SATA.

The milestone follows Strive’s completion of its acquisition of Semler Scientific in January 2026, which brought the medical technology firm into Strive as a subsidiary. 

At the close of that deal, Strive held 12,798 BTC and ranked as the 11th largest public corporate Bitcoin holder in the world. The company has added more than 2,200 BTC to its treasury since that transaction.
