Elon Musk opens xAI data centers to Anthropic in surprise AI deal
Anthropic has struck an unexpected deal with Elon Musk-owned SpaceX to expand computing capacity for its Claude AI models.
The agreement gives Anthropic access to 300 megawatts of new compute power from SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, which was originally built to support xAI’s Grok chatbot.
The facility reportedly contains more than 220,000 Nvidia processors and is expected to provide the extra capacity within a month. The deal comes as Anthropic faces growing demand for products such as Claude Code, its AI coding assistant.

Anthropic has also discussed partnering with SpaceX on future orbital data center projects that could eventually deliver several gigawatts of compute power.

The agreement stands out because top AI firms rarely rent infrastructure to direct rivals in the race for advanced AI models. Musk has repeatedly criticized Anthropic in the past and previously accused the company of drifting away from its original mission. In a post on X, Musk once said he believed Anthropic risked becoming “misanthropic.”

His tone changed this week after meetings with Anthropic executives. Musk said he decided to approve the deal after being impressed by the company’s efforts to ensure Claude remains “good for humanity.”

CME Is Bringing Wall Street’s Favorite Risk Tool to Crypto: Bitcoin Volatility Futures
CME Group plans to launch Bitcoin Volatility futures on June 1, pending CFTC approval.

The product will allow traders to bet on or hedge Bitcoin volatility without taking direct exposure to BTC’s price direction.

It marks the first CFTC-regulated Bitcoin volatility derivative, expanding institutional crypto risk-management tools in the US.

For years, Bitcoin traders have chased one elusive question: where is BTC headed — and how violently will it move on the way there.

Now, CME Group wants to turn volatility itself into a tradable asset.
The derivatives giant announced plans to launch Bitcoin Volatility futures on June 1, 2026, pending regulatory approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The product, trading under the ticker BVI, would become the first CFTC-regulated volatility futures contract tied directly to Bitcoin.

That matters because this product is not designed for traders betting on whether Bitcoin will go up or down.

Instead, it allows institutions and professional traders to trade volatility itself — the expected intensity of future price swings — regardless of direction.

In traditional finance, volatility products have long been a core part of institutional risk management.

CME is now bringing that framework deeper into crypto markets.
At first glance, volatility futures can sound complicated. In practice, the idea is straightforward.

The contracts are tied to the CME CF Bitcoin Volatility Index (BVX), which measures expected 30-day forward-looking volatility in Bitcoin markets.

It’s worth noting that the index is not based on spot Bitcoin prices.

Instead, it pulls data directly from CME’s regulated Bitcoin options order books, including both standard and Micro Bitcoin options.

The Stratum v2 Working Group announces today that ANTPOOL, Block Inc, F2Pool, Foundry, Spiderpool, MARA Foundation, and DMND have joined the working group to advance the adoption of the Stratum v2 protocol.
The working group was founded in 2022 by Braiins and Spiral to develop and maintain the Stratum v2 protocol as an open and vendor-neutral specification usable by the Bitcoin mining ecosystem. The protocol is an upgrade to the original Stratum mining protocol, bringing massive efficiency gains, privacy, security, and functionality that can be used to improve overall mining decentralization.

The onboarding of the new members, all substantial players in the mining ecosystem, represents a big leap forward for the working group’s progress in ensuring proper functioning and compatibility across real-world mining operations at scale. It also shows a growing consensus in the mining ecosystem that Stratum v2 is the direction to take going into the future.

“We’re proud to support the broader adoption of Stratum V2. Aligning around an open, interoperable standard enables the industry to collaborate more effectively and drive improvements in efficiency, security and decentralization,” said Andy Zhou, CEO of ANTPOOL.
