According to industry leaders, financial institutions have significantly increased their participation in crypto this year, showing strong confidence in the market.

Major developments support this trend, including the growth of the stablecoin market to new highs, the launch of Bitcoin ETFs by large financial firms, and increasing involvement from companies like Morgan Stanley, Schwab, and Franklin Templeton. Even traditional sectors are starting to integrate crypto-related services, such as Bitcoin-backed mortgages.

Unlike previous cycles in 2018 and 2022, where both institutions and retail investors exited the market together, this time institutions are continuing to accumulate. This suggests a shift toward a more mature market structure with deeper liquidity and less dependence on hype-driven price movements.

On the other hand, retail participation is currently very low. Analysts point out that many individuals are struggling with rising living costs and inflation, which limits their ability to invest in risk assets like cryptocurrency. Data also shows that small investors are contributing significantly less to exchange inflows compared to previous years.

Some experts believe that retail investors may have shifted their focus to other markets such as stocks and commodities, which have recently shown strong performance.

In the short term, overall market sentiment remains uncertain and is heavily influenced by macroeconomic factors such as oil prices, inflation, and the strength of the US dollar. However, in the medium to long term, many analysts remain optimistic about the growth of the crypto market as institutional adoption continues to expand.

According to the survey of 1,312 Israeli adults (conducted April 9–10, margin of error 3.2%):
41% support honoring the ceasefire
39% favor continuing military strikes on Iran
19% remain undecided
The results suggest a near-even split in public sentiment, with no clear consensus on how Israel should proceed.
Ceasefire Holds, But Regional Conflict Continues
While the agreement has paused direct U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, fighting in the broader region remains active.

US President Donald Trump stated that Washington will increase pressure on Iran after peace talks in Pakistan stalled. The main point of contention in the negotiations centers on Tehran's nuclear program. This shift has once again brought the Strait of Hormuz—a vital oil shipping route—in the spotlight.

Following the fruitless weekend talks with Iran in Islamabad, the US announced a naval blockade against Iran. Two US destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz, and mine-clearing operations commenced. Crude oil prices surged to over $100 per barrel. Bitcoin and Ethereum both fell throughout the day.

What happened in the Strait of Hormuz?

Trump later stated that the two sides had made near progress on several issues. However, negotiations ultimately broke down due to Iran's refusal to compromise on its nuclear program. Following the breakdown, US Central Command announced a blockade of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports starting Monday. Reuters and the Associated Press both reported that non-Iranian vessels could still pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, this is not a complete blockade of all routes.

This distinction is important.

 Approximately one-fifth of the world's seaborne oil is transported through the Strait of Hormuz. Even a partial blockade can have a significant impact on fuel prices, freight costs, and inflation concerns within hours. Following the announcement, Brent crude prices surged to over $101 per barrel, and U.S. crude prices climbed to over $104 per barrel.

On April 11, the U.S. Navy destroyers USS Frank Peterson and USS Michael Murphy transited the waterway. U.S. Central Command stated that this was part of a broader operation to clear previously laid Iranian mines.

Institutions Drive Crypto Bull Run as Retail Steps Back, Says Exodus CEO

Exodus CEO JP Richardson said on Sunday that financial institutions have "accelerated" their participation in crypto markets this year while retail investors have pulled back, calling it potentially the first crypto cycle where institutions are in a bull market and retail is largely unaware of it.

Richardson pointed to several developments as evidence, including the stablecoin market capitalization reaching an all-time high, Morgan Stanley launching a BTC ETF, Schwab opening a waitlist for spot Bitcoin trading, Franklin Templeton announcing a dedicated crypto division, and Fannie Mae beginning to accept Bitcoin-backed mortgages.

"In 2018 and 2022, institutions pulled out with retail. This time, they accelerated," he wrote on X. The shift suggests crypto may be transitioning from retail-driven hype cycles toward a more mature, institution-led market with steadier accumulation and deeper liquidity.

MN Fund founder and crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe echoed the view in a Sunday X post, stating that retail is clearly not interested in crypto right now. He attributed the absence to the cost-of-living crisis, saying almost everyone is struggling to pay monthly bills, leaving little appetite for speculative assets.

CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reported that retail activity hit a nine-year low earlier this month, with inflows from small accounts holding less than 1 BTC reaching a record low. He said some retail investors may have recently shifted into equities and commodities, both of which have delivered strong returns.
