On March 23, Goldman Sachs analysts, led by Daan Struyven, stated in a report released on March 22 that the revision is partly based on the assumption that oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz will only maintain at 5% of normal levels for the next six weeks, followed by a one-month gradual recovery period. This longer-than-expected disruption, combined with limited alternatives for spare capacity, is expected to significantly alter short-term market pricing and supply-demand dynamics. 

As a result, Goldman Sachs has raised its Brent oil price forecasts for March and April to $110 per barrel, a substantial increase from the previous forecast of $98, and significantly higher than the bank's expectations for 2025. 

In addition to the short-term disruptions, Goldman Sachs also emphasized the long-term structural changes in the oil market. The bank pointed out that the high concentration of global production and idle capacity (mainly in a few countries) could drive a more persistent risk premium in oil prices. Analysts indicated that this dynamic is expected to encourage governments and market participants to increase strategic reserves, thereby intensifying upward pressure on long-term oil prices. 

Goldman Sachs analysts wrote: 'The largest oil supply shock in history may lead policymakers and the market to recognize the structural risks posed by the high concentration of production and idle capacity in the Middle East, as well as the fragility of energy infrastructure.' 

Considering these changes, they expect the average Brent oil price in 2026 to be $85 per barrel, up from the previous forecast of $77 per barrel; at the same time, they raised the WTI oil annual average price forecast from $72 per barrel to $79 per barrel.
