Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily opened during a ceasefire window sparked one of the strongest energy market reversals of the year.
Following the news, Brent crude fell 12.95% to $86.52, while WTI dropped 14.26% to $81.19—both hitting their lowest levels since March 11 and marking the largest single-day decline since early April. The move reflected traders rapidly removing the “war risk premium” that had been built into oil prices over recent weeks.
The shift in sentiment also spread across global markets:
U.S. stock markets rallied
Bond yields declined
The U.S. dollar weakened
Bitcoin briefly surged to an intraday high of $78,336
Analysts note that markets quickly repriced risk assets as geopolitical tensions eased, even temporarily.
However, the situation remains fragile. Reports indicate that vessel movement through the Strait is still tightly controlled, requiring authorization from Iranian authorities and restricted transit through designated safe lanes. At the same time, U.S. sanctions and shipping restrictions remain in place, leaving the broader dispute unresolved.
By April 18, Iran reportedly re-imposed closure measures after diplomatic progress stalled, pushing markets back into uncertainty ahead of the April 22 ceasefire deadline.
Despite the brief reopening, only eight oil and gas tankers were able to pass through, highlighting how far the region remains from normal shipping conditions.

The 200-day simple moving average (SMA) of an asset is an average of its closing prices over the prior 200 days, and it's one of the most watched long-term trend indicators in financial markets.

With Bitcoin, when its shorter-term 50-day SMA crosses above the 200-day SMA, in a signal that's known as a "golden cross," the rallies that follow have historically been enormous.

There's no guarantee that what happened in the past will happen again, but Bitcoin bulls like their odds.

Ali Martinez, a closely followed analyst in the cryptocurrency markets, shared an important assessment indicating that the technical outlook for $XRP is regaining strength.

According to Martinez, a critical indicator for $XRP, which has been under selling pressure for a long time, has given a bullish signal for the first time.

According to the analyst, the SuperTrend indicator on the daily chart has turned bullish for the first time since January 17th. This development suggests that a trend reversal may be beginning in the market after months of decline. Martinez stated that this signal could herald a potential recovery for $XRP.

However, the analyst pointed to a critical level for confirming the uptrend. Martinez stated that the $1.55 level stands out as strong resistance for the $XRP price, arguing that breaking above this level would be decisive. Specifically, a clear breakout and daily close above this level could trigger a rapid upward movement, known in the market as a “relief rally.”

Martinez noted that the SuperTrend indicator is now beginning to act as support, and in a potential bullish scenario, the first target is the $1.90 range. A move towards this level could indicate that the medium-term trend reversal in $XRP is gaining strength.

The platform stated that it “investigates” the issue while assessing the full scope of the breach. Meanwhile, the exploit focused on the rsETH adapter bridge contract. The attacker gained access to funds by targeting this contract, leading to a large outflow within a short time. Stolen Funds Moved Through Crypto Channels Cyvers reported that the attacker used an address funded through Tornado Cash. This tool is often used to obscure transaction trails. A large portion of the stolen funds, about $250 million, has already been converted into Ether. The movement of funds has raised concerns among platforms connected to rsETH. Monitoring teams continue to track the assets as they move across networks. No recovery of funds has been confirmed so far. Kelp has not released further technical details about the breach at this stage. Moreover, the attack caused what Cyvers described as “cross-protocol contagion.” At least nine crypto platforms had exposure to rsETH and took action to limit risk.
