SEC removes huge pattern day trader barrier to allow retail investors to day trade Bitcoin with just $2k margin

One of the most hated rules for small traders is on its way out after the SEC approved a change that could reshape retail risk-taking.
The SEC has approved a rule change that eliminates one of Wall Street's most recognizable barriers for small traders: the old $25,000 minimum tied to pattern day-trading restrictions.

Regulators signed off on FINRA's proposal to scrap a framework that long made it harder for smaller investors to make rapid-fire stock trades, replacing it with a system aimed at measuring intraday risk.

The change might not be a rewrite of crypto regulation per se, but it carries certain implications for Bitcoin because the same retail crowd that speculates in stocks and options often moves through crypto too.
Day trading means buying and selling a stock on the same day, trying to profit from short-term price swings rather than holding for weeks or months.

Under the old FINRA Rule 4210 framework, anyone who executed four or more of these same-day trades within a rolling five-business-day period could be classified as a “pattern day trader.” Once that label was applied, the trader was required to maintain at least $25,000 in their margin account at all times. Fall below that threshold, and the broker would lock you out until your balance recovered.

The rule dates back to 2001, when regulators were trying to contain the fallout from the dot-com crash.

Millions of retail traders had piled into overvalued tech stocks using margin accounts, and when the bubble burst, the losses were severe. The $25,000 requirement was designed as a capital buffer, a way to ensure that people making frequent, leveraged bets had enough to absorb the inevitable hits.
It made sense a lot of regulatory sense at the time.

Strategy Inc. has proposed a change to the dividend schedule of its STRC preferred stock.  Summary Strategy proposes STRC dividend payments move from monthly schedule to twice per month structure. STRC carries variable 11.5% annualized dividend and aims to trade near $100 par value. Shareholder vote scheduled June 8 will decide approval of new dividend payment structure. The proposal suggests moving payments from a monthly cycle to a semi-monthly structure, subject to shareholder approval. The company stated that the adjustment could “lead to reduced reinvestment lag, enhanced liquidity, market efficiency, and increased price stability.” The change is still under review and has not taken effect. It currently offers a variable dividend with an annualized rate of 11.5%. The dividend rate adjusts on a monthly basis. Strategy uses this structure to support price movement close to par while limiting sharp changes in value. Strategy has built a portfolio of preferred shares to support its broader bitcoin acquisition plan. These instruments sit above common stock in the capital structure and have helped the firm raise large amounts of funding. Alongside STRC, the company has issued other preferred stocks including STRF, STRE, STRK, and STRD. Unlike STRC, these carry fixed dividend rates and different payout terms. The idea: Wait for XRP to pull back to the $1.38-$1.40 zone, then enter long.

Take profit: $1.45 (first target), $1.48 (stretch target) Stop loss: $1.33-$1.34 With x3 leverage on $500: your position is $1,500. A 0.7% move up = ~$10 profit

The confirmation signal: wait for a green 5-minute candle closing above your entry with a volume spike. That tells you buyers are actually stepping in, not just a fake bounce.

Why this works: $1.38 has been a reliable bounce level. The short-term trend is building bullish structure. Risk/reward is about 1:1.8, which is solid for a scalp.

According to on-chain analyst Ali, the SuperTrend indicator on $XRP's daily chart flipped to a buy signal on April 18, ending a stretch of sustained selling pressure that began in mid-January.
