PONS Market Cap Skyrockets to $500 Million in a Week and a Half, What's Supporting the $950K Daily Revenue?

Abstract

The market capitalization of PONS surged from $35 million to a peak of $500 million in approximately a week and a half. The Pons protocol generated approximately $950,000 in revenue over the past 24 hours, with about 29% of its initial supply already burned. While platform revenue is directly linked to token buybacks, factors such as high-level floating profits, fluctuating rolling revenue, and the fading hype of on-chain memes can amplify short-term pullbacks.

PONS has taken the lead in breaking out of the platform token narrative during the current Robinhood Chain rally. According to GMGN data, its market cap surged from $35 million to nearly $500 million in about a week and a half, before settling back to around $440 million. This rapid, more than tenfold increase in a short period has propelled Pons from a simple on-chain launchpad tool to one of the most talked-about projects in the ecosystem.

PONS Is Not Your Average Launchpad Meme Coin

PONS is the platform token of Pons. Pons itself provides non-custodial token launch and trading services where users initiate transactions from their own wallets, and the platform does not hold user funds. The new version of the contract allows projects to trade on a bonding curve first, and upon meeting graduation conditions, migrate to a Uniswap V4 pool with locked liquidity.

The high volume of new tokens launched on the platform daily generates launch fees and transaction fees. As long as the number of new token launches, trading frequency, and active wallets remain high, Pons can continuously earn protocol revenue. This is the most distinct difference between PONS and ordinary Meme coins.

How the $950K Daily Revenue Translates to PONS

Citing DefiLlama data on September 2nd, Odaily reported that Pons' 24-hour protocol revenue was approximately $950,000, higher than Uniswap's approximately $580,000 and Flap's approximately $350,000 for the same period, ranking seventh on the protocol revenue chart at the time.

It's important to distinguish between the total fees paid by users and the final revenue retained by the protocol. The new contract typically distributes transaction fees as 70% to the creator and 30% to the protocol. Of the portion taken by the protocol, about 80% is used to repurchase and burn PONS on the market, with the remainder allocated to infrastructure and team operations. The commonly mentioned "80% buyback and burn" does not refer to using 80% of all transaction fees to buy the token.

Approximately 29% of Initial Supply Has Exited Circulation

The initial maximum supply of PONS is 1 billion tokens. Project disclosures show that about 29% has already been sent to a burn address, with market data platforms showing a remaining supply of approximately 710 million tokens. The buyback funds come from real protocol revenue; the more active the trading, the greater the theoretical buying and burning pressure.

This mechanism links platform usage to token supply contraction, but the buyback is not a fixed return. The 24-hour revenue fluctuates with trading activity, and the actual execution of buybacks may also have a time lag relative to revenue recognition. One cannot simply multiply a single day's $950,000 figure by 365 to project a long-term level.

Significant Unrealized Profits Already Accumulated Behind the $500M Peak

According to on-chain data, the top profit address invested $113,700 when PONS's market cap was around $10 million. It later sold a portion to recover the initial investment when the market cap reached about $100 million, and its remaining holdings are still valued at around $4 million. Similar early-stage capital no longer has principal pressure, and any expansion of liquidity at high prices could become a window for profit-taking.

PONS's revenue and burn data provide a fundamental explanation for the price surge, but the price has already priced in a significant amount of optimistic expectations in a short time. If platform transaction volume continues to grow, buybacks could absorb some selling pressure. However, if token launches and Meme trading cool down, profit-taking could quickly amplify volatility.
