Abstract

Bitcoin miner MARA reported a net loss of $611.3 million in Q2 2026, a sharp reversal from an $808.2 million profit a year earlier. The loss was primarily driven by a 28% decline in the average Bitcoin price, which overshadowed a 3% increase in production to 2,422 Bitcoin. Despite the loss, MARA holds 35,577 Bitcoin, valued at $2.1 billion, making it the fourth-largest public holder. The company is aggressively expanding into AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Recent moves include acquiring a stake in Exaion SAS, partnering with Starwood Capital to convert mining sites for AI customers, and acquiring land in Texas with significant future power capacity. MARA aims to sign at least two AI/HPC leases by year-end. CEO Fred Thiel emphasized that Bitcoin mining remains the core cash-generating business, stating that the company will allocate megawatts to their highest-value use, whether for mining, AI, or other computing infrastructure.

Bitcoin miner MARA swung to a net loss of $611.3 million from a year-earlier profit in the second quarter of 2026, driven primarily by a change in the value of its Bitcoin holdings, despite reporting its highest quarterly Bitcoin production in more than a year.

The net loss, equivalent to $1.60 per diluted share, is down compared to a net income of $808.2 million, or $1.84 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2025, according to the company’s 10-Q SEC filing. MARA mined 2,422 Bitcoin in the quarter, 3% more than the prior year period, but higher production was more than offset by a 28% decline in the average Bitcoin price.

“Two things defined Q2 for MARA. Bitcoin prices created a challenging revenue environment [and] we used the quarter to fundamentally transform our power portfolio and capital structure,” said MARA chief financial officer Salman Khan during an earnings call on Thursday.

The quarter highlights MARA’s exposure to Bitcoin prices even as it expands mining capacity and pursues AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. As of June 30, MARA held a total of 35,577 Bitcoin, with a total fair value of $2.1 billion, making it the fourth-largest public Bitcoin holder after Strategy, Twenty One Capital and Metaplanet.

MARA eyes continued AI expansion

In February, the company acquired a majority stake in Exaion SaS, which operates high-performance computing (HPC) data centers and secure cloud and AI infrastructure.

In the same month, MARA also announced a partnership with Starwood Capital Group and its data center development platform Starwood Digital Ventures to enable the conversion of select MARA sites to meet demand from “enterprise, hyperscale and AI customers.”

MARA said it is targeting at least two AI/HPC lease signings by year-end.

“Working alongside Starwood, we are progressing lease discussions across multiple sites, and we remain confident in our ability to sign at least 2 leases before year-end,” MARA CEO Fred Thiel said on Thursday.

In July, MARA also agreed to acquire a 1,200-acre powered land site in Matagorda County, Texas, with expected access to up to 2 gigawatts of grid capacity by April 2028. The company said it intends to develop the site for AI and HPC workloads as well as Bitcoin mining.

MARA’s expansion plans also include its pending acquisition of Long Ridge Energy & Power in Ohio, a $1.5 billion deal that MARA has said could support up to 600 megawatts of AI and critical-IT load over time.

Bitcoin mining remains foundational

In a letter to shareholders on Thursday, Thiel said Bitcoin mining still represents the core of MARA’s business and will continue to generate cash flow that supports its other investments.

“Ultimately, we do not view Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure as competing businesses,” said Thiel.

“Our capital allocation philosophy remains straightforward. Every megawatt should be deployed into its highest-value application. In some markets, that will continue to be Bitcoin mining. In others, it will be AI infrastructure, sovereign cloud, or enterprise computing.”

Launch Event Turned into a Make-up Ceremony? Why Hasn't Pools.trade Produced a High-Market-Cap Meme Coin Yet?

The article discusses the launch of Pools.trade, Uniswap's new token launch platform on Robinhood Chain, designed as a Meme coin launchpad. Despite generating high initial trading volumes (over $1.5 billion before the official frontend launch), the platform has yet to produce a high-market-cap Meme coin. The piece highlights two primary reasons for this. First, it outlines Pools.trade's features: it offers Instant and Crowd Launch modes, locks liquidity permanently in Uniswap v4 pools, and charges a low 0.25% transaction fee (compared to 1% on competitors like Pons and Flap), with most fees reinvested into liquidity. Second, it identifies a key problem: a lack of perceived fairness. The two most notable coins on the platform, FRONG (a "frog mascot" coin) and POOLS (a platform namesake), were both minted days before Uniswap's official countdown began. This "pre-minting" or "insider" controversy has dampened community FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and trust, causing their market caps to fall from peaks of $18 million and $4 million, respectively. The article argues that fairness is foundational for Meme coin success, and its absence has hindered viral growth. In conclusion, while Pools.trade benefits from Uniswap's existing user base and Robinhood Chain's popularity, its current lack of a fair-launch, high-engagement narrative has prevented a breakout hit. However, the author suggests that with its inherent traffic, such a success might not be far off.

Real Vision Founder: When Machines Take Over the Global Economy, Cryptocurrency Becomes Their Sole Payment Channel

In approximately two years, the vast majority of global economic activity will be conducted without direct human involvement, according to Raoul Pal, founder of Real Vision. This new economy will be driven by billions of autonomous AI agents executing trades, hedging, and clearing amongst themselves in milliseconds—far faster than human perception. This shift is driven by a fundamental crisis in the old economy: shrinking workforces and stagnant productivity in aging Western societies. Unable to generate organic growth, governments resort to debt and currency debasement. The proposed solution is a new, silicon-based labor force. However, this machine economy cannot function on human banking systems. Banks are ill-suited for machines, requiring human identity verification, struggling with sub-cent transactions, and operating too slowly with weekend closures. In contrast, blockchain technology offers instantaneous, borderless settlements 24/7, with programmable money and precision to 18 decimal places. It is the only viable payment rail for machines. The core of this transformation is tokenization—converting real-world assets and data into machine-readable, tradable packets. This goes far beyond tokenizing stocks or bonds; it encompasses data, identity, energy, storage, and compute, creating entirely new markets where machines buy and sell information. While some fear job losses, Pal argues the focus is misplaced. The real disruption is to the human wage system, which historically priced scarce human labor. When silicon labor becomes abundant and cheap, compensation mechanisms must change. Wealth will flow to the owners of the machines and the foundational infrastructure they run on—the blockchain networks. For the first time, this infrastructure is globally accessible. Pal's conclusion: individuals should seek to own a part of this foundational layer, as it will capture the value of the coming machine-driven economic singularity.
