The banks are very anxious about stablecoin alternatives that offer users rewards of over 5%. For them, allowing stablecoins unfettered access will force depositors to flee from local banks. 

In fact, the perceived deposit flight has prompted banks to adopt a hardline stance against the crypto market structure bill – The CLARITY Act. Efforts to reach a deal between banks and the crypto industry on stablecoin yield have been futile.

Now, the banks are publicly pushing back against White House’s call for a compromise on the same to advance the CLARITY Act. The latest to dissent against the White House is Christopher Williston, President of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas. 

He cautioned, 

“Compromise on CLARITY is compromising local lending and economic production. It’s simply impossible to roll over in the fight for liquidity that powers the economies of the places we call home. This isn’t hard to understand, folks.”

In investing, fear is not always a risk.

From a technical viewpoint, it often signals a prime accumulation opportunity, driven by the fear of missing out (FOMO) on outsized returns, a dynamic clearly reflected in Bitcoin’s [BTC] current setup.

After six straight weeks of decline, BTC is set to close its first weekly green candle, up more than 7%. This underscores the frustration of those who missed buying near $65k, as they now face the pain of lost gains.

According to AMBCrypto, this FOMO is a key driver in the current cycle.

On the derivatives side, Bitcoin has added nearly $4 billion in new leveraged positions, with Open Interest (OI) rising 7% to $46.8 billion. This reflects the ongoing battle between bulls and bears around the $70k level.

Notably, one analyst observed that BTC long positions are opening up, while the Long/Short Ratio at press time has flipped negative, hinting that a short bias could be forming as bears bet on potential overhang resistance.

Either way, Bitcoin’s current positioning is shaping into a textbook battleground. However, with recent 7% gains fueling FOMO, could an “intensified” fear of missing out shift the bias in favor of the bulls?

Bitcoin faces fear as smart money takes a position
The short bias in Bitcoin derivatives appears more strategic than random.

From a technical perspective, capital flows into BTC ETFs have flipped negative again after topping $1 billion over the past three days, as the broader market revived the “safe haven” narrative around Bitcoin.

Yet, on-chain data indicates BlackRock is accumulating BTC, with a net inflow of 4,172 BTC ($303 million). Taken together, since the 24th of February, BlackRock has recorded a total net inflow of $1.58 billion BTC.

US Senator Ted Cruz is maintaining a firm campaign against a US central bank digital currency (CBDC). In the latest development, the junior senator representing Texas has pushed for a permanent CBDC ban in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, to replace an initial short-term prohibition.

Sen. Cruz Opposes CBDC Development In Perpetuity

In an X post on March 6, independent journalist Eleanor Terrett reports that Senator Cruz has filed an amendment to the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which seeks to remove the sunset provision on a central bank digital currency prohibition.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act represents a bipartisan bill introduced in August 12026, aimed at boosting the US housing supply through zoning reforms and incentives. However, the bill carries a vehicle attachment by Senator Tim Scott and Senator Elizabeth Warren that proposes a sunset provision that enforces a CBDC ban until December 31, 2030.

￼NEW: @SenTedCruz (R-TX) filed an amendment to strike the sunset provision on the CBDC ban in the Senate’s 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which will likely have a series of votes next week.

Cruz has moved to amend this section of the bill, pushing for a more permanent ban. This development aligns with his 2025 Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, which seeks to block Federal Reserve-issued digital dollars over privacy and surveillance risks.

The memecoin market has seen its collective market capitalization drop by 48% over the past year, and 6.9% over the past month, according to CoinMarketCap. According to Glassnode, the memecoin sector has only gained by 2.2% over the past week, compared to the 4.6% DeFi and L2 sectors managed.

Among memecoins, PEPE’s weakness can be highlighted as an outlier. At the time of writing, the short-term and long-term charts were bearish, and the $0.00000336 local lows were under pressure once again.

The Open Interest was in decline as the prices bled to show speculators were not willing to bet on a price recovery. Combined with Bitcoin’s [BTC] fall below $70k, it would seem that the next few days could see further drawdown for PEPE holders.

A short squeeze can materialize in the coming weeks

Just like Bitcoin, PEPE also has a large number of short liquidation levels overhead. The 90-day liquidation map showed that the cumulative short liquidation leverage was much higher than the long liquidation leverage.

In other words, a price move higher would liquidate a lot more short positions than a price move of similar magnitude would wipe out long liquidations. This could be an attractive prospect for counter-trend traders, but they shouldn’t be in a hurry.

Bitcoin has a chance of dropping to $65.3k in the coming days. Whether it can defend the $63k-$65k area, or will plummet to $60k and below, will decide which way PEPE likely goes.

Traders’ call to action – Wait

PEPE has not been trading in a feasible area for swing traders. At press time, it was just below the long-term support at $0.00000342. The downtrend could see it fall to the $0.00000303 extension level to the south just as easily as it could bounce to the $0.00000379 local highs.

What is more likely? It is hard to tell because PEPE will likely closely follow Bitcoin trends. As things stand, BTC looks poise
