SEC working on 'narrower' exemption for tokenized securities: Hester Peirce

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said the agency is developing a "narrower" innovation exemption for tokenized securities, as suggested by the Investor Advisory Committee.

The IAC recommended that regulatory exemptions for tokenized securities should be on a "rule-by-rule" basis rather than through a "blanket" approach.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Hester Peirce stated today that the agency is developing an innovation exemption for tokenized securities, but in a more restrictive manner.

"Commission staff is working on an innovation exemption to facilitate limited trading of certain tokenized securities-much narrower than the 'blanket' exemption mentioned in the draft recommendation," Commissioner Peirce said during a SEC Investor Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, which discussed the subject matter.

Oil price surge sparks billion-dollar trading frenzy on crypto platforms

The price of oil has more than doubled in just two weeks, driving crypto platforms into a speculative frenzy that saw them list leveraged oil derivatives for overnight commodities futures experts willing to risk it all on-chain.

The results were predictable.

Tokenized crude oil perpetuals on Hyperliquid, a platform that earned initial fame from hedge fund-like copytrading and a leaderboard of leveraged degeneracy, have generated multiple, billion-dollar trading days this week.

Oil has suddenly become Hyperliquid’s second-most popular market behind only bitcoin (BTC) itself.

Open interest on Hyperliquid’s CL-USDC, a West Texas Intermediate crude futures-linked contract, exceeded $169 million. Trailing 24-hour volume still exceeded $1.2 billion at time of writing.

When crude spiked more than 30% to nearly $120 a barrel on March 9, oil short-sellers on Hyperliquid, across a 12-hour period, experienced $36.9 million in liquidations relative to just $2.1 million in long liquidations.

The largest single victim held 72,178 CL shorts worth around $7.7 million. The platform liquidated every one of them.

Not that anyone should feel particularly sorry about the loss, given the choice of venue and size in the first place. Indeed, the obviously well-capitalized trader re-opened short positions almost immediately.

Two other million-figure shorts were liquidated near the very top for oil at $120 per barrel. Another trader, rather embarrassingly, started shorting when barrels were in the $70s.

When oil hit $108 on the morning of March 9, they wiped out.

Pumpfun Launches Automated Buyback Tool for AI Agent Tokens

Solana-based memecoin launchpad pumpfun has rolled out a new feature that connects AI agents to tokenonomics, allowing projects to automatically funnel agent-generated revenue into token buybacks and burns.

The tool, called Tokenized Agents, targets what pumpfun describes as a core problem in the growing "agentic economy" – a lack of value alignment between successful AI agent projects and the communities that form around them.

How It Works

Under the new system, developers launch a token on the platform, set a revenue buyback percentage, and integrate their agent using a provided configuration file. When the agent earns revenue, whether from SaaS products, trading, or other sources, a portion is automatically used to buy back and burn the token.

Buybacks are executed by a centralized buyback authority and instantly burned. Only revenue denominated in SOL and USDC is eligible, and a minimum threshold of $10 in accumulated revenue is required before a buyback is triggered.

It’s worth noting that the agents themselves are not deployed on pumpfun, whose role is limited to enabling the onchain buyback-and-burn mechanism tied to the token.

$XRP, the fifth-ranked cryptocurrency asset by market capitalization, has made a significant price break in the last 24 hours. CoinMarketCap data reveals that $XRP breached the $1.40 resistance level after its volume spiked by over 10% following renewed interest in the coin.

Notably, $XRP’s trading volume climbed by 12.92% to $2.63 billion, pushing the price from a low of $1.37 past the resistance level. $XRP had stagnated below this resistance for some days now, and the current breakout has volume support that could sustain it.

If the interest from market participants lingers, $XRP could continue its upward momentum. As of this writing, $XRP exchanges hands at $1.41, which represents a 3.02% increase in the last 24 hours. The coin previously hit a peak of $1.42 before settling at the current level.

It is likely that the renewed interest, which pushed the volume up, was because of the recent partnership with Mastercard, the global payment giant.

As reported by U.Today, Ripple and Mastercard are collaborating on the Crypto Partner program, which aims to connect blockchain companies with banks and payment networks.

The move is expected to accelerate the adoption of digital assets like $XRP and Ripple’s USD (RLUSD) stablecoin.



Can $XRP rally toward $1.50 or higher?

With $XRP’s volume up and bullish sentiment high in the community, the coin has the potential to retest the $1.50 price level.

The current outlook suggests that if $XRP finds support at the $1.40 to $1.42 area, it could soar to $2 if volume stays green.

The coin currently has strong on-chain fundamentals and recently formed a golden cross on its hourly chart. Should investors and traders in the $XRP space continue to engage the coin, it might prove sufficient to catalyze the price above $1.50 and edge it toward $2.
