$400M in ETH Options Expiry: Could a Liquidity Sweep Precede a $2,535 Breakout?Ethereum is consolidating between $2,440 and $2,535 after a strong upward move, as roughly $3 billion in crypto options expire on Deribit. More than $400 million involves $ETH contracts, creating a possible positioning reset near the weekly range’s lower boundary. The setup leaves a question: could Ethereum fall below support before recovering toward its weekly high?

At the time of writing, $ETH was trading at $2,466.60, down by 0.55% over 24 hours, with trading volume reaching $17.6 billion. At that price, Ethereum sits $26.60 above the weekly low and $68.40 below resistance.

$ETH Options Positioning Adds Context to the Range
The settlement comprised approximately $2.53 billion in Bitcoin options and $406 million to $425 million in Ethereum contracts. Immediate volatility following expiry remained relatively limited.

Ethereum’s put-to-call ratio reached 0.89, compared with Bitcoin’s 0.76, showing a higher proportion of puts relative to calls. That comparison points to comparatively cautious $ETH positioning, although calls still outnumbered puts.

Crucially, the ratio alone does not yield enough bearish exposure to support a downside sweep followed by a short squeeze. It displays neither dealers’ net positions nor where traders concentrated their contracts.
The reported Ethereum max pain level stood near $2,150. However, that figure does not yield a post-expiry price target.
A $2,440 Breach Would Put the Recovery in Focus
Within the liquidity-sweep scenario, a move below $2,440 could lead to sell stops from existing longs and entries from breakout sellers. Buyers could take in those orders, possibly supporting a recovery into the range.
If that recovery forces newly opened shorts to close, their purchases could add upward pressure. This explains how a downside sweep might lead

The online brokerage said in its August 2026 monthly operating report, published Thursday, that Bitstamp accounted for $10.1 billion of the total, while the Robinhood app accounted for $7.4 billion.

Bitstamp’s volume rose 53% from July but fell 30% year-on-year, while the Robinhood app volume increased 72% month-on-month but dropped 46% from August 2025.

In a research note, TD Securities strategists Oscar Munoz and Gennadiy Goldberg stated that they predict the Fed will implement its first interest rate hike in September, followed by two more hikes in October and January 2027.

Strategists stated, “We expect a total of three interest rate hikes in this cycle. We anticipate the next two hikes to occur in October and January of next year.” The institution also believes that the Fed may not provide clear guidance on the future course of interest rates after the meeting, but that the dot plot, which shows officials’ interest rate expectations, may reveal a hawkish outlook.

Delta Capita’s MACH distributed ledger solution allows financial institutions to unlock valuable opportunities for efficiencies, cost savings, improved regulatory compliance and enhanced security. It is a private permissioned DLT.

As per MACH, their DLT is designed with integration and interoperability in mind and offers seamless connectivity to traditional financial industry networks such as SWIFT (ISO15022/ISO20022) and emerging distributed ledger programming languages.

The solution will be delivered to the Central Securities Depository in the UAE, which was recently launched by the UAE’s central bank.
