With Fed rate hike all but assured, here's how markets might react
The Federal Reserve looks increasingly likely to raise rates next week after the hot core CPI reading Friday. Markets have had plenty of time to prepare, which now raises the question of whether a hike will have much bite.Core CPI rose 0.3% in August, above the 0.2% economists expected. Headline inflation rose 0.4% on the month and 3.4% from a year earlier, both in line with forecasts.
The report followed hotter producer-price data earlier in the week and came a day after the European Central Bank raised rates. Bank of America expects the Fed to follow with a 25-basis-point increase next week, with another 50 basis points of tightening by year-end.

Fitch Ratings’ Olu Sonola said the latest inflation data make it “increasingly difficult to justify a pause.”

Bitcoin, though, rose following the report, currently at $78,600, up 1.5% over the past 24 hours.

Joel Kruger, global markets strategist at LMAX Group, said traders were already leaning toward a hike before the CPI numbers landed.

“A good deal of the hawkish risk is arguably priced in,” Kruger said.

That could leave markets with a relatively muted response if the Fed does what everyone expects. The bigger move may come if the central bank refrains from raising rates.

“We see greater potential for an outsized move in risk assets to the topside should the Fed ultimately fail to deliver on these hawkish expectations,” Kruger said.

Matt Mena, senior crypto research strategist at 21Shares, doesn't see a hike as an automatic problem for bitcoin. He said bitcoin has gained an average 2.13% over the 30 days following hotter-than-expected core CPI readings.

Mena also pointed to gains in ether ETH$2,477.31 and solana (SOL) as a sign that traders haven't backed away from crypto risk.

As of press time, Bitcoin is trading near $76,750, below the $77,128 support reference identified in CoinEdition’s September 10 analysis. Buyers therefore need to reclaim $77,128 to improve the near-term setup, while the report places higher resistance at $82,357. Continued weakness could bring its lower support levels at $74,686 and $72,735–$72,870 into focus.

Farside’s figures show weakening ETF demand, with $120.2 million in outflows on September 9. Its incomplete September 10 tally showed another $224.6 million among reporting funds, while figures from several funds remained pending.

A Q4 advance would gain confirmation from recovering $77,100, breaking $81,300 and sustaining positive weekly ETF flows. Continued redemptions and a failed recovery would favor a retreat toward $73,500 and roughly $71,000.

What Must Ethereum Deliver With Glamsterdam?
Ethereum’s traded around $2,450, above the $2,350–$2,360 support zone identified by Reuters analyst Christopher Romano. Resistance remains at the recent $2,564 high, followed by the $3,040–$3,060 area where earlier rallies stalled.

However, Glamsterdam provides the main scheduled development catalyst. The Ethereum Foundation’s latest planning document assumes delivery in December 2026, although activation remains dependent on testing.

A break above $2,564 would gain fundamental support from successful deployment and stronger demand for Ethereum settlement. Conversely, a sustained fall below $2,350 would invalidate the existing recovery pattern.

Where Does $BNB’s Recovery Face Resistance?
$BNB traded near $711 after retreating from its recent highs. The $700 level remains the nearest support area, followed by $680–$690. On the upside, buyers face resistance near $725 and $750 before the recent peak around $775.
