Bitcoin's BTC$82,046.14 price continued to pull back in late Thursday evening U.S. hours, tumbling to as low as $81,000 before bouncing to the current $82,000.

The world's largest cryptocurrency has now lost nearly $10,000 over the past 24 hours of trading. More than $777 million in crypto longs were liquidated over the past hour, with that sum rising to $1.75 billion over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGlass.

The broader cryptocurrency market likewise saw prices tank by 7% to 9% over the past 24 hours, with ether ETH$2,734.89 hovering around $2,700, $BNB $BNB$842.07 around $843, and $XRP $XRP$1.7530 around $1.74.

For BTC, I watch the 4H and 1H structure. If price holds above key support zones and volume confirms, I prefer low-leverage long positions (3x–5x). If BTC fails to reclaim resistance, I switch to short-term short trades with tight stop-losses above recent highs. ETH usually follows BTC but offers faster momentum, making it suitable for scalping during high volatility sessions.

Risk management is critical. I never risk more than 2% of my account per trade and always set stop-loss orders before entering. In volatile markets, patience and position sizing matter more than overtrading.

This approach helps me stay consistent while avoiding emotional trades in uncertain market conditions.

Crypto market sentiment reaching a year-low could be one of the few signs of a potential rebound, according to crypto analytics platform Santiment.

“This sentiment data is currently one of the few strong bullish signals available,” Santiment said in a report on Friday. “A silver lining is the extreme negativity on social media. The ratio of bearish to bullish comments is heavily skewed toward fear,” Santiment said.

The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, which measures overall crypto market sentiment, posted an “Extreme Fear” score of 20 on Saturday, indicating that investors are cautious about the crypto market. On Friday, the index recorded an “Extreme Fear” score of 16, the lowest in 2026 and the first time it had reached that level since Dec. 19.

Bitcoin’s 50% plunge isn’t a crisis, says hedge fund veteran Gary Bode

Bitcoin’s sharp decline — nearly 50% from its all-time highs reached just months ago — has reignited debate over the cryptocurrency’s stability, but hedge fund veteran Gary Bode says the selloff is a feature of the asset’s inherent volatility rather than a sign of a broader crisis.

In a post on X, Bode noted that while the recent price drop is “unpleasant and jarring,” it is not unusual in bitcoin’s history. “80% - 90% drawdowns are common,” he said. “Those who have been willing to stomach the always-temporary volatility have been well-rewarded with incredible long-term returns.”

Much of the recent turbulence, he said, can be traced to market reactions to the nomination of Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair. Investors interpreted the move as a signal that the Fed might adopt a hawkish stance, raising interest rates and making zero-yield assets such as bitcoin, gold, and silver relatively less attractive. Margin calls on leveraged positions amplified the decline, causing a cascade of forced selling.

Bode, however, disputes the market’s interpretation. He pointed to Warsh’s public statements supporting lower rates and notes from President Trump suggesting Warsh promised a lower fed funds rate. Combined with Congress’ ongoing multi-trillion-dollar deficits, Bode argued, the Fed has limited ability to influence longer-term Treasury yields — a key factor in corporate borrowing and mortgage rates. “I think the market got this one wrong” he said, emphasizing that perception, rather than fundamentals, drove much of the recent selling.
