Gold’s Rise Offers a $30 Trillion Bitcoin Comparison

Bitcoin could follow gold into a much larger market as institutional ownership expands, according to Matt Hougan, chief investment officer of Bitwise Asset Management. In an Oct. 9 post on X, he reinforced his comparison between gold and bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) launches while sharing a video clip posted by media outlet Simply Bitcoin.

The remarks contrasted gold’s estimated $2 trillion to $2.5 trillion market capitalization when the first U.S. gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) launched in 2004 with its subsequent expansion to roughly $30 trillion. Hougan put bitcoin’s market value at roughly $2 trillion when its ETFs launched in 2024, suggesting it could follow a similar growth trajectory. The Bitwise investment chief said:

“I think it could easily do what gold did, which is run up to $30 trillion, and that arrives at a pretty nice price target.”
The comparison builds on Hougan’s argument that sustained ETF buying could tighten bitcoin’s available supply over time. Existing holders’ sales initially absorb demand, he noted in January, but continued buying could exhaust willing sellers. Bitcoin was trading at $82,766 at the time of writing.

ETF Access Puts Bitcoin’s Long-Term Growth in Focus

U.S. investors gained a new route to direct bitcoin price exposure after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved spot bitcoin investment products on Jan. 10, 2024. The authorization allowed shares of products holding coins to trade on stock exchanges.

The fund structure lets investors gain bitcoin exposure through regular brokerage accounts without handling cryptocurrency wallets or private keys. Shareholders hold shares tracking the underlying asset.

Hougan’s earlier scenario for bitcoin reaching $1 million per coin used a different calculation. In a March 10 memo, he envisioned the combined g

Can Solana replicate September’s rally in October after latest upgrade?

September may have been the turning point for Solana’s Q4 rally.

Historically, a strong fundamental performance has not always translated into a robust technical performance for $SOL. However, September was nothing short of remarkable, with the altcoin recording more than 14% in price gains. It almost doubled Ethereum’s returns, while also crossing the psychological $120-barrier on its way for the first time since early Q1.

The key takeaway? This gain did not come out of nowhere. As shown in the graph below, $SOL’s monthly transaction count climbed to a whopping 10.7 billion in September, the highest since May 2025.

To put this in perspective, $SOL’s price performance finally caught up with the network’s adoption growth.

However, the momentum does not stop there.

Based on Solana Hub’s X post, September marked another milestone for tokenized stocks on the network. The supply of tokenized equity reportedly crossed $780.5 million as spot trading volume reached $4.25 billion, with the number of holders surpassing 1 million. This is yet another positive development for $SOL, as the network’s activity is gaining traction and its tokenized equity market is growing exponentially. This bodes well for the fundamentals heading deeper into October.

According to AMBCrypto, this is where September’s rally get interesting.

$SOL gained by over 14% for the month, having regained its position on-chain in terms of value. Now, given the signs of strength on both fronts, can Solana [$SOL] sustain the September rally through October and the rest of Q4

Cardano ($ADA) price is showing a bullish chart pattern that points to the potential for another major rally, according to TradingView analyst Akbar Karimzsfeh.

The analyst highlighted a large green pattern on $ADA’s weekly chart, with the price moving within its boundaries ahead of a potential breakout above the upper trendline.

The setup follows an earlier inverse head-and-shoulders pattern that preceded a rally of approximately 1,600%.

XMR Means Private, decentralized cryptocurrency

$GRVT A flaw in the $XRP Ledger’s payment system could have let an attacker create large amounts of new $XRP without paying for it, breaking the token’s fixed-supply rule, according to a security report published Friday.

The bug, believed to date to 2015, was found by researcher Cayden Liao and Veria AI and internally reported on Sept. 22. Engineers at RippleX, Ripple’s developer arm, reproduced the attack on a standalone server and confirmed the newly created $XRP could be spent in a later transaction.

RippleX said it found no evidence the flaw was exploited on any public network.

All 100 billion $XRP were created when the ledger launched in 2012, and its software is built so no more can ever be added. But the security vulnerability could have allowed an attacker to create $XRP from nothing and sell it on exchanges, undercutting a supply cap that institutions using the network rely on.

The attack worked through the ledger’s built-in exchange, where accounts post offers to swap one token for another.

An attacker would open hundreds of accounts, have each one offer a tiny amount of a token in exchange for an unusually large amount of $XRP, then send a single payment that bought every offer at once.

The total $XRP owed would be too large for the software to count correctly, so the attacker’s selling accounts would be paid in full while the buying account was charged almost nothing — leaving the attacker with $XRP that hadn’t existed before.

The $XRP Ledger runs a check after every transaction to make sure no new $XRP has appeared, but that check relied on the same miscounted total and would have missed it. A separate limit on how much $XRP a single account can receive wouldn’t have triggered either, because the attack spread the $XRP across hundreds of accounts.

Critical Warning for This Altcoin: Whales Are Turning to Short Positions

As concerns grow about selling pressure on Ethereum ($ETH) in the cryptocurrency market, analyst Joao Wedson noted a significant shift in the positions of large investors and suggested a new wave of liquidations could be on the horizon.

According to data shared by Wedson, Ethereum’s 30-day and 180-day open interest delta (OED) are both in negative territory. The Whale vs. Small Investor delta indicator, which shows the difference in positions between whales and individual investors, is similarly trending negative.

The analyst said that this data indicates that large market participants have significantly reduced their long positions and shifted more towards short positions over time.

However, the total open interest in the Ethereum futures market remains high, at approximately 10.58 million $ETH. According to Wedson, the significant amount of leveraged positions still present in the market leaves Ethereum vulnerable to a new wave of forced liquidations.

According to Wedson, the fact that the total amount of open positions remains high despite position changes by large investors raises concerns that liquidations could trigger each other in the event of sharp price movements.

Bitcoin price drops amid capitulation fears – Is a BTC bear trap forming?

Rising Bitcoin [$BTC] unrealized profits have raised FUD around a potential capitulation.

From a technical lens, this doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Bitcoin fell over 4% this week, after a three-week rally that sent $BTC from $75k to $87k, putting early buyers in profit, as highlighted in a CryptoQuant report.

According to the report, the critical level, in this case, has been identified at $74.6k, which is Bitcoin’s Short-Term Holder Realized Price. Holding above this level would keep the early bull-market structure intact. So, $BTC is still in a profit zone, but some holders are starting to take profits with short-term holders sending 45.6k $BTC to exchanges in just 24 hours.
