Ultimately, Ethereum does not look ignored or inactive. Instead, it looks stuck in a high-participation and low-conviction phase. Here, heavy trading interest keeps returning but fails to produce durable upside.

Currently, whether you use ChatGPT or call Claude's API, there's only one payment method:

Register an account, link your email, and link your credit card.

Every conversation and every prompt you make is known to the platform as yours.  What you ask, when you ask, and how many times you ask are all tied to your real identity.

Vitalik and Crapis's proposal offers another way.

A user deposits money into a smart contract, say 100 USDC.

The contract records this deposit in an on-chain encrypted list. Afterward, each time you call the API, you don't need to reveal your identity; you only need to generate a zero-knowledge proof.

This proves two things to the service provider: you're on the list, and you have enough balance. But the proof itself doesn't reveal which person on the list you are.

The service provider receives the money, and it prevents abuse, but they never know who you are.

You can understand this proposal as Vitalik believing that in the AI ​​era, users shouldn't have to hand over their identity to use an AI tool.
