XMR Means Private, decentralized cryptocurrency

$GRVT StarkWare said on Oct. 10 that “Starknet becoming an independent L1 is our clearest path forward,” strengthening its advocacy for the Ethereum Layer 2 to control its own security upgrades.

The wording goes beyond Starknet’s Oct. 8 statement that it was “actively considering becoming an L1,” which The Defiant previously covered. Yet an article published by Starknet’s official account on Oct. 9 described the idea more cautiously: “It's a question, not a decision, and the conversation is happening in public.”

Starknet still operates as an Ethereum-settled rollup, with about $580 million in total value secured listed by L2BEAT. The Oct. 10 post’s text gives no governance proposal, L1 launch date, bridge-migration design or revised $STRK economics.

StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said on Oct. 8 that independence would let Starknet control security migrations rather than wait for Ethereum or Bitcoin. Starknet’s stated 2027 target is for full quantum resistance; it is not a specified L1 launch date.

What Independence Would Change

Under Starknet’s current protocol design, cryptographic proofs of transaction execution are sent to Ethereum for verification, alongside data that lets the network’s state be reconstructed. An independent Layer 1 would instead rely on its own consensus for settlement security.

That would change a central assumption in StarkWare’s June 30 quantum-readiness roadmap. Its final phase ties bridge messaging and Ethereum blob data availability—the mechanism used to publish Starknet’s state data—to Ethereum’s own cryptographic migration. The roadmap warns that removing the Ethereum-facing bridge functions before that migration would break the bridge.

For users moving assets back to Ethereum, the dependency is concrete. The current StarkGate withdrawal process requires the withdrawal block to be proven and a state update submitte

$GRVT Shiba Inu has traded 1.34 billion $SHIB in new volume over the past 24 hours. Following the market-wide flush, volume jumped after more than $1 billion in leveraged positions were wiped out. Most of this trading activity looks like a reaction to the crash: first forced sellers, then dip buyers. The chart supports this observation.

The descend is fueled

$SHIB went from $0.00000580 to $0.00000534 in two days, with the heaviest trading volume of the week appearing in a red candle. The price reached a low of $0.00000510 on Thursday and then began to recover. The long lower wick shows that buyers stepped in near the bottom. $SHIB is currently trading at $0.00000534, right on the orange average of $0.00000529.
Support is key in this instance. The most recent daily candle is green, showing that it held. Volume on the bounce has been small so far, which indicates that the recovery is not yet confirmed. A cluster of moving averages near $0.00000545 to $0.00000549, positioned above the price, acts as the first wall. The longer black line close to $0.00000565 represents a significant test. $SHIB failed to hold it this week and must regain it to turn the trend positive once more.

The RSI is around 44, which shows weakness but not oversold conditions. Sellers therefore still hold a minor edge. A daily close above $0.00000549 would be the initial positive indicator for bulls.

Bulls are aiming way higher

After that, bulls should aim for $0.00000565, then $0.00000580, and ultimately $0.00000600. Bears would cancel the recent bounce with a close below $0.00000529. The next support is at $0.00000510, followed by $0.00000500.

This zone was also in play in September. Looking ahead, fresh volume near support levels is a positive indicator, but sustained momentum is required. If $SHIB holds $0.00000529 with high volume on green candles, a move to $0.00000565

Bitcoin Drawdown Analysis Maps a $74,500 Level if Losses Deepen

The latest pullback has brought a $74,500 downside reference into focus, according to an analysis published by Cryptoquant on Oct. 9. Contributor MAC_D used the cryptocurrency analytics platform’s historical bull market corrections to compare declines during bull markets, periods of broadly rising prices.

The analysis measured a decline from $87,027 on Oct. 5 to $80,404 on Oct. 9, a $6,623 reduction, or approximately 7.61%. A drawdown measures how far a price falls from an earlier peak. That retreat nearly matched the previous expansion’s average setback.

$GRVT Midnight [$NIGHT] is experiencing renewed bullish momentum as the altcoin bounced back from a $0.0407 slip to reclaim $0.05. In doing so, the altcoin cleared losses recorded during the recent sell-off.

At press time, Midnight crypto was trading around $0.049, up 11% on the daily charts.

Midnight extends its foothold into the Japanese market

$NIGHT made these gains after Midnight announced the upcoming new exchange listing. According to the project, $NIGHT will be available on OKCoin Japan from the 13th of October 2026.

Midnight’s entry into the Japanese market broadens its access to an established digital asset market.

Therefore, Midnight hopes the listing on OKCoin Japan will expand the token’s user base. The project especially seeks to extend its reach among investors seeking privacy-centered infrastructure.

How did the market respond

Following the listing news, traders rushed across the market for strategic positioning. On the derivatives market, the altcoin’s Open Interest (OI) climbed 26.7% to $42 million as of writing.

The rising OI indicated higher demand for the leveraged positions, implying that traders opened both shorts and longs.

Meanwhile, the Long/Short Ratio rose to 1.00, with the Binance Top Traders ratio exceeding 2. This metric suggested that investors were mostly bullish and opened leveraged longs.

On the Spot side, buyers stepped in with strength. According to Coinalyze data, the Spot Buy Volume rose 65 million compared to 48 million in Sell Volume.
As a result, the Spot Buy Sell delta climbed to 17 million, a clear sign of aggressive spot accumulation.

Can Midnight crypto’s momentum hold?

Strengthened by renewed demand, Midnight’s upside momentum has extended substantially. Notably, the Stochastic formed a bullish crossover and rose to overbought territory.

$GRVT Bitcoin BTC$82 486,39 is experiencing more unusually large price swings this year than during the 2018 bear market, even as its overall volatility has fallen sharply, and that's a challenge for anyone relying on standard risk models.

The largest cryptocurrency has recorded 10 days in 2026 when its price moved at least three standard deviations from its recent trading pattern, according to a CoinDesk analysis. That's more than the eight such days recorded during all of 2018, when bitcoin lost 73% of its value.

Traders measure these unusually large moves in ‘sigma,’ a measure of how far an asset's price typically deviates from its normal behavior. To quantify them, CoinDesk compared each day's price move with bitcoin's 30-day realized volatility, a measure of how much its price typically moved each day over the previous month. Any day that moved at least three times that amount, up or down, counted as a ‘3-sigma’ day.

In a normal bell-shaped distribution, about 95% of moves fall within 2-sigma, and 99.7% within three. That makes a 3-sigma move rare, which is why traders use it to flag outsized swings. A high count indicates an asset remains prone to sudden jolts, even if its overall volatility is cooling.

The findings suggest bitcoin has calmed down over the years, but it still has outsized days, and this year it has had them more often than in 2018. This means that bitcoin is experiencing more unusually large moves relative to its recent volatility, even though the moves themselves have become smaller. Bitcoin's annualized volatility is about 46% this year, compared with 84% in 2018, while its 3-sigma moves have averaged roughly 7%, down from about 10% eight years ago.

"Bitcoin still goes through long quiet stretches followed by sharp repricings, and that hasn't changed. The market has matured, with more institutions, ETFs and much deeper
