The TRON community recently officially launched a new feature proposal for version v4.8.1. The core goal is to optimize the behavior and execution cost of the SELFDESTRUCT instruction, achieving high compatibility with Ethereum EIP-6780.

Key Changes After Proposal Approval (Developers Must Pay Close Attention):

✅ Contract Deletion Mechanism Restructuring

1/ A contract will only be permanently deleted from the chain when its creation and execution occur within the same transaction.

2/ In all other scenarios, SELFDESTRUCT will only transfer assets within the contract to the target address; the contract itself will not be deleted, preserving its on-chain state.

✅ Execution Cost Optimization

1/ The energy consumption of SELFDESTRUCT will be adjusted from the current 0 to 5000, achieving more reasonable resource pricing.


 📖Proposal Significance

This adjustment will significantly improve smart contract compatibility between the TRON network and the Ethereum ecosystem, providing cross-chain developers with a more consistent and predictable execution environment. Simultaneously, the new mechanism effectively avoids the state cleanup risks that historical SELFDESTRUCT might have caused, further enhancing network security and stability.

Every smart contract platform has a fee asset baked in. For example, Ethereum (ETH) has ETH, Solana (SOL) has SOL, but with Bitcoin (BTC), however, things get messy. If you want expressive apps, you usually end up adopting a second network’s economics.  Summary Bitcoin doesn’t price computation, only block space. Unlike Ethereum or Solana, BTC’s fee market is built around sat/vB for transaction inclusion, not metering smart contract execution. Execution can move off-chain while settlement stays on Bitcoin. Systems like OpNet run contract logic in a Wasm VM while anchoring payments and final state changes through normal BTC transactions. BTC can function as the gas asset without a new token. By pricing execution costs in satoshis and settling interactions through Bitcoin transactions, apps avoid creating a second fee economy. On Stacks, for example, you pay fees in STX. On EVM-style Bitcoin layers, you might be told that BTC is the gas token, but it’s typically an L2-native representation with EVM-like conventions (including 18 decimals), and you’re still operating inside that L2 environment. Bitcoin itself, meanwhile, already has a clean fee market, where users bid for block space in sat/vB, and miners prioritize higher fee rates. With this in mind, what if a smart contract interaction could be initiated and paid for as a normal Bitcoin transaction, with fees in BTC terms (no extra gas token or fork) while the smart part runs elsewhere and stays provably tied back to Bitcoin? On March 11, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust pulled in $115.51 million in net inflows, accounting for nearly the entirety of the $115.42 million that flowed into US spot Bitcoin ETFs that day. Ethereum spot ETFs added $57 million separately.

The following morning, BlackRock did something it has not done with any previous crypto product. It launched a fund designed to pay investors while they wait.
The iShares Staked Ethereum Trust, trading under the ticker ETHB on Nasdaq, began trading on March 12. It is BlackRock's third crypto ETF and its first to incorporate staking.

Under normal market conditions, ETHB stakes between 70% and 95% of its ether holdings via Coinbase Prime. Investors receive approximately 82% of gross staking rewards, currently running at roughly 3.1% annually, distributed monthly. BlackRock and Coinbase retain 18% as a staking fee.

The fund charges a 0.25% sponsor fee, discounted to 0.12% for the first year on the first $2.5 billion in assets. It launched with just over $100 million in initial assets and recorded $15.5 million in first-day trading volume, which market watchers described as a solid debut for a new ETF.

On March 12, the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced sanctions against six individuals and two entities involved in a North Korean-led IT worker fraud network. The announcement claimed that these individuals systematically defrauded U.S. companies to fund weapons of mass destruction programs, with the amount involved approaching $800 million in 2024 alone.

Sanctions Details

According to OFAC, North Korean-controlled IT teams used forged documents, identity theft, and fabricated personas to conceal their true identities and gain employment with legitimate companies in the U.S. and other countries. The North Korean government seized the vast majority of these overseas IT workers' salaries, obtaining hundreds of millions of dollars to support its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs. In some cases, North Korean affiliates also secretly implanted malware into corporate networks to steal proprietary and sensitive information.

 This round of sanctions targets six individuals (Nguyen Quang Viet, Do Pyong Kyong, Hoang Van Nguyen, Yun Song Guk, Hoang Minh Quang, and York Louis Celestino Herrera) who were identified as providing substantial assistance to North Korean IT workers in cryptocurrency exchange, money laundering, bank account opening, and IT business integration. Two company entities (Amnokgang and Quangvietdnbg) were identified as key operators and facilitators in a fraud network perpetrated by IT workers.
